Rohit Sharma has lost his T20I six-hitting record to Austria’s Karanbir Singh just ahead of India’s ODI series against England.

Just days before stepping onto the field for India’s crucial ODI series against England cricket team, Rohit Sharma has lost one of his most iconic records.

The former India captain, long celebrated as the ‘Sixer King’ of T20 internationals, has now been overtaken by Karanbir Singh, the India-origin opener representing Austria national cricket team.

Rohit, who retired from T20Is after India’s triumph in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, had finished his career with a record 205 sixes in 159 matches, making him the only batter at the time to cross the 200-mark in the format.

For nearly two years, that record remained untouched.

But now, it belongs to Karanbir.

The Austrian opener produced a sensational innings against Hungary national cricket team, smashing 164 runs off just 57 balls in the third T20I at Sződliget, hammering 12 sixes in the process.

That explosive knock pushed his overall T20I six tally to 207, taking him past Rohit’s long-standing mark.

What makes the feat even more remarkable is the pace at which he achieved it.

Karanbir has reached 207 sixes in just 60 matches, scoring 2,533 runs at an impressive average of 48.71, with 4 centuries and 20 half-centuries.

While Rohit may have lost the overall record, he still retains a major distinction.

Among players from Full Member nations, the Indian superstar remains the highest six-hitter in T20I history.

That means his dominance among top-tier international cricketing nations remains intact.

Interestingly, the next player threatening Rohit’s tally is Muhammad Waseem, captain of the United Arab Emirates national cricket team, who currently sits at 196 sixes.

Meanwhile, India’s own Suryakumar Yadav follows with 179, while England skipper Jos Buttler has 175.

Even as records shift, Rohit’s place in Indian cricket remains unquestioned.

Former India batter Ambati Rayudu recently backed Rohit to remain central to India’s plans for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027, praising both his batting and leadership.

With the three-match ODI series against England beginning on July 14 at Edgbaston Cricket Ground, Rohit will now look to silence the noise the best way he knows — by scoring runs.

Because while one record may have slipped away, the bigger battles are still ahead.
