Not Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘King’! This Power Couple Dominates India’s Most Anticipated Films List, IMDb Reveals Surprise Top Picks
Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s upcoming films claim top spots, pushing Shah Rukh Khan’s much-hyped King down the list.
In a surprising twist that has caught Bollywood watchers off guard, Shah Rukh Khan’s much-awaited film King has failed to secure the top position in IMDb’s Most Anticipated Indian Movies of 2026 list.
Instead, the spotlight has shifted to Bollywood’s power couple — Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt — whose films have claimed the top two spots, redefining audience expectations for the year ahead.
The list, released by IMDb on Tuesday, is based on the page views of over 250 million monthly users worldwide, making it a strong indicator of global audience interest.
At number one is Ranbir Kapoor’s ambitious mythological epic Ramayana Part 1. The film is expected to chronicle the journey of Lord Rama — from exile to the battle against Ravana — and will be released in two parts, with the first installment slated for Diwali 2026 and the second for Diwali 2027.
The scale and cultural significance of the project have already generated massive buzz, placing it firmly at the top of audience anticipation.
Closely following at number two is Alia Bhatt’s upcoming spy thriller Alpha. The film holds special significance as the first female-led project in the Yash Raj Films Spy Universe, produced by Aditya Chopra and directed by Shiv Rawail.
Also starring Sharvari, Anil Kapoor, and featuring a cameo by Hrithik Roshan, Alpha is scheduled for release on July 3, 2026.
Together, the couple’s dominance on the list has sparked conversation online, with many noting how their individual projects are shaping up to define Bollywood’s next phase.

Meanwhile, South superstar Yash’s film Toxic has secured the third spot, further highlighting the pan-India appeal of big-budget cinema.
Coming in at fourth place is Shah Rukh Khan’s King, despite being one of the most talked-about films of the year. The film is particularly special as it marks SRK’s on-screen collaboration with his daughter Suhana Khan and reunites him with Deepika Padukone.

Reports suggest that King draws inspiration from the 1994 Hollywood classic Léon: The Professional, with SRK portraying a seasoned hitman who protects a young girl.
The film is slated for a Christmas 2026 release and remains one of the most awaited projects despite its position on the list.
The rankings have sparked debates among fans, with many surprised that SRK’s comeback film didn’t top the chart. However, the list clearly reflects shifting audience trends — where fresh concepts, масштаб storytelling, and new-age narratives are capturing attention.
As 2026 gears up to be a massive year for Indian cinema, one thing is certain — the competition at the box office is going to be fierce, and audiences are in for a blockbuster ride.
