I Wanted to Be His Girlfriend! Actress Once Rejected Playing Shah Rukh Khan’s Sister, The Reason Will Surprise You
Sadiya Siddiqui recalls turning down a role in Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa because she was “completely in love” with Shah Rukh Khan.
It’s no secret that Shah Rukh Khan has charmed millions across the world — but for actor Sadiya Siddiqui, that admiration once led to a surprising career decision.
In a candid conversation with YouTuber Siddharth Kannan, Sadiya revealed that she had turned down the opportunity to play Shah Rukh Khan’s sister in the 1994 cult film Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa — and the reason was deeply personal.
According to Sadiya, she was completely smitten with Shah Rukh at the time and couldn’t imagine portraying a sibling relationship with him on screen.
“I was drowning in love for Shah Rukh Khan… I wouldn’t even see anyone else,” she admitted, recalling her younger days in the industry.
She shared that when director Kundan Shah approached her for the role, she didn’t hesitate to be honest — something she herself now finds surprising.
“I told him, ‘I don’t have those feelings for him… in my eyes, you’ll see the real feelings, and that wouldn’t work,’” she said, explaining why she felt she couldn’t convincingly play his sister.

Her candid confession left the filmmaker amused. Recalling the moment, Sadiya said that Kundan Shah laughed and asked her what she would prefer instead.
Her answer was as straightforward as it was bold.
“I want to be his girlfriend,” she told the director — a response that perfectly captured her admiration for the superstar.

However, the request didn’t materialize. Sadiya revealed that she was told she was too young for the role, and the film eventually went on to become one of Shah Rukh Khan’s most loved early performances.
Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, released in 1994, is still remembered for its heartfelt storytelling and Shah Rukh’s portrayal of a lovable underdog.
The anecdote has since delighted fans online, offering a rare and endearing glimpse into how even actors aren’t immune to the charisma of Bollywood’s ‘King Khan.’
More than just a nostalgic story, it highlights the cultural phenomenon that Shah Rukh Khan has been for decades — someone who continues to inspire admiration both on and off screen.
