‘Munna Bhai 3 Is getting Closer’: Rajkumar Hirani breaks silence on sequel, Hints at PK 2 with Ranbir Kapoor

For years, fans of filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani have been eagerly waiting for the return of one of Bollywood’s most loved franchises Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. and its sequel universe. Now, the director has finally shared a promising update that may bring fresh hope to audiences.

In a recent interaction, Rajkumar Hirani revealed that Munna Bhai 3 is still very much in development, though he made it clear that he refuses to rush the project unless the script meets his expectations.

Speaking about the sequel, Hirani said the film has been in the works for a long time and the team continues revisiting it, refining it step by step. He admitted that while progress has been slow, they are “inching closer” to something worthwhile.

What makes this update even more exciting is that the filmmaker stressed he does not want to make a sequel just for the sake of it. According to him, the film will only happen when the script feels strong enough to match the legacy of the original.

The Munna Bhai franchise, led by Sanjay Dutt as Munna and Arshad Warsi as Circuit, remains one of the most beloved comedy-drama series in Indian cinema. Their chemistry and unforgettable characters continue to enjoy a cult following even years after release.

Interestingly, Hirani also addressed another sequel fans have been demanding PK. The film’s post-credit scene featuring Ranbir Kapoor had sparked speculation for years about a possible second installment.

When asked about PK 2, the filmmaker smiled and admitted that the idea has often crossed his mind. While he did not confirm anything officially, his comments strongly hinted that revisiting that universe is certainly a possibility.

Adding to the conversation, Arshad Warsi explained why he believes audiences continue to ask for sequels to Hirani’s films. According to him, the filmmaker creates characters so memorable that viewers simply don’t want to let them go.

He also mentioned the recently discussed Pritam and Pedro concept, saying the characters have enough depth and layers to inspire entirely new stories.

Talking about his long friendship with Rajkumar Hirani, Arshad Warsi shared that their bond is rooted in a shared sense of humour. He described their off-screen conversations as spontaneous, fun, and full of jokes.

Hirani responded warmly, saying Arshad has a unique ability to find humour in almost everything and that their chemistry naturally translates into both friendship and creative collaboration.

With both Munna Bhai 3 and PK 2 now back in discussion, fans have every reason to stay hopeful. The big question, however, remains which sequel will arrive first?
