The wait for Ramayana Part 1 is getting bigger by the day, but a surprising detail about the film’s release has left fans wondering: Why does the much-awaited epic have two different release dates?

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the ambitious film starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash is currently scheduled to arrive in international markets on November 6, 2026, while Indian audiences are expected to see it on November 8, around the Diwali holiday.

The two-day gap, however, is not a last-minute change.

Why does Ramayana have two release dates?

Producer Namit Malhotra has now clarified the reason behind the different dates.

Speaking to NDTV during the inauguration of his Prime Focus Studio at Mumbai’s Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari, Malhotra explained that the overseas release is planned for November 6 because international markets generally prefer releasing major films on Fridays.

In India, however, the makers are targeting the Diwali weekend, which falls on November 8.

So, while overseas audiences are expected to get an early glimpse of Ramayana Part 1, Indian viewers will have to wait another two days for the theatrical release.

Malhotra’s clarification suggests that the two dates are part of a carefully planned global release strategy rather than any uncertainty surrounding the film.

Ramayana trailer creates global buzz

The release-date clarification comes at a time when Ramayana is already generating enormous interest across international markets.

The film’s English trailer has reportedly received a massive response online. Malhotra previously told ANI that the trailer crossed 1 billion views within just five days of its release.

The producer described the response as a major moment for Indian cinema and expressed appreciation for the audience’s support across the world.

The scale of the response has further raised expectations for what is being positioned as one of India’s biggest cinematic adaptations of the epic.

Ranbir Kapoor, Yash lead the epic

Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama, while Sai Pallavi takes on the role of Sita. Yash will portray Ravana, marking one of the most closely watched performances of the film.

The ensemble cast also features Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, Rakul Preet Singh as Shurpanakha, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi and Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodari.

Veteran actors Arun Govil, Amitabh Bachchan, Kunal Kapoor and Vivek Oberoi are also associated with the project in important roles.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is being developed as a two-part epic, with the makers aiming for a large-scale cinematic presentation of the timeless Indian story.

For now, the two release dates appear to have a simple explanation: November 6 for international audiences and November 8 for India. And with Diwali providing the backdrop for its Indian theatrical arrival, expectations around the film are only getting bigger.
