Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday concluded his three-day official visit to Indonesia, marking a significant step forward in India’s growing engagement with Southeast Asia. Following the successful visit, the Prime Minister departed for Australia, carrying forward India’s diplomatic outreach in the Indo-Pacific region.

During the visit, PM Modi held extensive bilateral discussions with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the long-standing partnership between the two countries. In a warm diplomatic gesture, President Subianto personally accompanied Prime Minister Modi to the airport before his departure.

14 Agreements Strengthen India-Indonesia Partnership

The highlight of the visit was the signing of 14 bilateral agreements covering several strategic and emerging sectors. The new pacts are expected to deepen cooperation in areas that are becoming increasingly important in the evolving global landscape.

The agreements span critical minerals, steel supply chains, maritime security, telecommunications, healthcare and medicines, education, food security, research and innovation, and outer space cooperation.

Sabang Port Project Gains Momentum

Among the most significant outcomes of the visit was the decision by India and Indonesia to jointly develop the strategically located Sabang Port.

Situated near the vital Strait of Malacca, one of the world’s busiest maritime trade routes, the port is also located close to India’s ambitious Great Nicobar Port Project.

Experts view the collaboration as an important step toward enhancing regional connectivity, boosting maritime trade, and strengthening strategic cooperation across the Indo-Pacific.

United Against Terrorism

Security cooperation featured prominently during the bilateral discussions.

Both leaders reiterated their commitment to maintaining a free, open, peaceful, and inclusive Indo-Pacific, while strongly advocating a zero-tolerance approach against terrorism.

With increasing focus on supply chain diversification, maritime security, energy resources, and technological collaboration, the partnership is expected to play an increasingly important role in the future of the Indo-Pacific region.

The agreements signed during the visit are also expected to create new opportunities for trade, investment, innovation, and people-to-people exchanges.
