‘A Decision That Makes Me Very Happy’: Koottickal Jayachandran Backs CM Vijay’s New Public Transport Rule, Urges Kerala to Follow
The veteran actor praised the Tamil Nadu government’s move to promote headphone use in buses and public places, saying the rule will help reduce noise pollution and improve public discipline.
Actor Koottickal Jayachandran has welcomed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay’s latest public transport initiative, calling it a thoughtful step towards improving civic discipline and reducing noise pollution in shared spaces.
The veteran actor shared a video on social media praising the government’s decision to encourage the use of headphones while watching videos or listening to audio in public transport and other public places.
“A Very Good Decision”
In the video, Koottickal Jayachandran said he was pleased to learn about the Tamil Nadu government’s initiative requiring commuters to use headphones instead of playing audio aloud on mobile phones.
Describing it as a “very good decision,” the actor said the move would make travelling in buses and other public spaces more comfortable for everyone.
According to him, maintaining silence and respecting fellow passengers are basic responsibilities that every citizen should follow.
Urges Kerala Government to Adopt Similar Rule
The actor also appealed to the Kerala government to introduce similar guidelines across the state.
Pointing out that he frequently travels by buses and trains, Koottickal Jayachandran said public spaces belong equally to everyone and should not become a source of inconvenience because of loud mobile phone usage.
He stressed that people should exercise self-discipline and avoid disturbing others while travelling.

Calls for Responsible Phone Usage
Apart from watching reels without headphones, the actor also highlighted another common issue—loud phone conversations in public transport.
He questioned why fellow passengers should be forced to listen to someone’s personal conversations, urging people to be more mindful while using mobile phones in buses and trains.
According to him, responsible behaviour should come voluntarily rather than through strict government regulations.
Tamil Nadu Government’s Awareness Drive
As part of the initiative, the Tamil Nadu government has directed transport authorities to install awareness stickers inside buses.
The notices, placed near bus entrances and at central locations inside vehicles, encourage passengers to avoid using mobile phones in speaker mode and to use headphones while consuming audio or video content.
The campaign aims to promote a quieter, more comfortable and respectful travel environment for commuters across the state.
The government’s move has sparked discussions on social media, with many users supporting stricter etiquette in public transport while others have called for similar awareness campaigns in other states as well.
