New Delhi: Amid growing speculation on social media, the Delhi Police has issued an official clarification stating that Jantar Mantar has not been closed for protests. The police described the circulating claims as false, misleading, and completely baseless, urging citizens to verify information through official sources before sharing it further.

The clarification comes after several social media posts suggested that Jantar Mantar, one of India’s most prominent protest sites, had either been permanently shut or locked for public demonstrations. Responding to the rumours, the police made it clear that the venue continues to function as an authorised location for peaceful protests.

Jantar Mantar Remains Open for Peaceful Demonstrations

According to the Delhi Police, demonstrations at Jantar Mantar are still permitted, provided organisers follow the prescribed legal procedure. The protest venue operates under the directions of the Supreme Court of India, with the police implementing a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) designed to ensure peaceful and orderly gatherings.

Officials reiterated that the venue has not undergone any policy change and continues to be available for lawful public demonstrations.

Permission Is Mandatory Before Holding a Protest

While the venue remains open, organisers cannot gather without prior approval. The police explained that anyone planning a protest must submit a formal application to the competent authority.

Permissions are granted only after authorities examine the request and ensure that all prescribed conditions are fulfilled. Existing guidelines also limit the number of participants, with up to 1,000 people allowed to assemble at the site at a time.

The clarification reinforces that demonstrations are regulated through an established legal framework rather than unrestricted public access.
