Trump says he mostly reads about… himself: ‘I usually read stories about me’ on Usha Vance’s podcast
US President Donald Trump made a string of witty and controversial remarks while reading a children’s book about American presidents on Usha Vance’s podcast, once again making himself the centre of attention.
US President Donald Trump has once again grabbed headlines — this time for admitting that his preferred reading material is, unsurprisingly, about himself.
Appearing on Second Lady Usha Vance’s podcast, ‘Storytime with the Second Lady’, Trump was asked whether he gets time to read for pleasure while serving as president and what kind of books interest him.
His response was classic Trump.
“I usually read stories about myself,” the US president said, drawing laughter and instantly sparking online reactions.
The podcast, known for featuring guests reading picture books to children, had Trump reading ‘Presidents Play!’, a children’s book published by the White House Historical Association.
The book showcases illustrations of former US presidents enjoying sports and leisure activities at the White House.
But true to form, Trump didn’t just read — he offered his own colourful commentary on several former presidents along the way.
Trump’s take on former presidents
While flipping through the book, Trump described former President Lyndon B. Johnson as a “tough cookie” and praised Ronald Reagan, calling him a “high-quality person.”
In one of the lighter moments, Trump joked about his own looks, declaring himself the most handsome president in American history.
Referring to John F. Kennedy, he quipped, “He was the second-most good-looking president.”
Trump also touched upon Richard Nixon, the only US president to resign from office after the Watergate scandal, saying, “He got himself into trouble, I guess.”
When he reached Herbert Hoover’s section, Trump joked about the former president’s legacy during the Great Depression, saying, “It worked out better for him than the economy did.”

Obama and golf jabs
Trump also used the opportunity to take another swipe at former President Barack Obama.
Looking at an illustration of Obama playing basketball, Trump referred to him as “Barack Hussein Obama” and questioned his sporting ability.
“I don’t know if he’s a good basketball player. I tend to doubt it,” Trump said.
He also mocked Obama’s golf game, saying the former president enjoys golf but “won’t be in the Masters anytime soon.”
Jokes on weight and swimwear

Trump’s humour continued as he commented on Gerald Ford swimming in the White House pool.
He joked that he hasn’t worn a bathing suit in years because he is “too busy.”
Later, when discussing former president William Howard Taft, who was known for being America’s heaviest president, Trump made another self-referential joke.
“I have to be careful because I don’t want to beat his record,” he said.
The podcast appearance has once again highlighted Trump’s trademark mix of humour, self-promotion, and political jabs — proving that even while reading a children’s book, his favourite subject remains unmistakably himself.
