Has Ajith Kumar Reduced His Fee for ‘AK 64’? Industry Insider Reveals the Real Story
Reports of a salary cut sparked debate online, but insiders claim the delay around ‘AK 64’ is linked more to production hurdles and scheduling than remuneration issues.
Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar has once again found himself at the centre of intense industry speculation. After the success of ‘Good Bad Ugly’, directed by Adhik Ravichandran, the actor shifted his attention towards one of his biggest passions outside cinema — professional motorsport. While Ajith has been actively participating in international racing events with his own racing team, discussions around his next film, tentatively titled ‘AK 64’, have continued to dominate headlines.
Recently, reports surfaced claiming that Ajith had agreed to reduce his remuneration for the project from approximately Rs 163 crore to Rs 150 crore. The reports quickly triggered conversations across social media, with many linking the alleged pay cut to changing market conditions in the film industry.
However, a fresh clarification from an industry insider paints a very different picture.
According to an exclusive update shared with ETimes, there is reportedly “not even one percent truth” to claims suggesting that Ajith was forced to lower his fee. The source explained that the situation surrounding ‘AK 64’ is more complicated and has little to do with the actor’s market value or popularity.
As per the insider, the project was initially expected to begin production last December, but delays emerged due to financial planning issues connected to a producer’s investments and theatrical rights related to ‘Jana Nayagan’. Ajith, known for carefully planning his commitments, allegedly chose not to rush into the film until the production side became more stable.

The source further stated that Ajith had already committed dates for his racing schedule well in advance. When the film’s shooting failed to commence as planned, those dates reportedly went unused because of the uncertainty surrounding the project.
The clarification also pushed back against criticism on social media suggesting that the actor should focus solely on cinema. According to the source, Ajith has always maintained a balance between acting and racing and has never allowed one commitment to negatively affect the other.

Interestingly, the insider hinted that if any revised agreement exists, it may not be a traditional salary cut at all. Instead, it could involve a different type of business arrangement, such as rights-sharing related to digital distribution or overseas theatrical territories. Such deals have become increasingly common in the entertainment industry, allowing actors and producers to reduce upfront financial pressure while sharing long-term profits.
As of now, neither Ajith Kumar nor his representatives have officially commented on the reports.
Meanwhile, fans continue to eagerly wait for more updates on ‘AK 64’, which is already one of the most talked-about upcoming Tamil films despite not officially going on floors yet. With Ajith balancing high-speed racing circuits and big-screen stardom, the anticipation surrounding his next move remains stronger than ever.
