Ajay Devgn Teams Up With ‘Kill’ Director Nikhil Nagesh Bhat for New Action Drama: Cameras to Roll in 2027

Ajay Devgn is adding another action-heavy project to his already packed lineup. The actor is set to collaborate with filmmaker Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, the director behind the acclaimed action thriller Kill, for a new action drama backed by Jio Studios.

The project is currently in development, with principal photography expected to begin in the second half of 2027. While the makers are keeping the storyline under wraps for now, the film is expected to feature Devgn in the lead in what could be another intense action role for the veteran actor.

According to Variety India, an official announcement is still awaited. Details about the supporting cast, plot and release date are expected to emerge once the project is formally unveiled.

Ajay Devgn finds another action vehicle

Devgn has spent decades moving comfortably between action blockbusters, thrillers and character-driven dramas. His latest collaboration with Bhat adds yet another action-oriented title to a filmography that has repeatedly demonstrated his ability to handle physically demanding roles.

The pairing, however, is what makes this project particularly interesting.

Bhat has developed a reputation for creating action sequences that are intense, close-quarters and heavily driven by choreography rather than conventional spectacle. Putting that filmmaking style together with one of Hindi cinema’s most established action stars could result in something markedly different from a routine action entertainer.

Why ‘Kill’ changed the conversation around Bhat

Bhat made a major impact with Kill, starring Lakshya and Raghav Juyal.

Released in 2024, the film attracted considerable attention for its brutal and relentless action sequences. Set largely aboard a moving train, Kill relied heavily on hand-to-hand combat and tightly choreographed fights rather than traditional large-scale action spectacle.

The film also premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, giving it visibility beyond the Indian market.

Its international reception eventually led to Hollywood interest, with the film’s remake rights being acquired. That development further established Bhat as a filmmaker whose action sensibilities could travel beyond Indian cinema.

Before Devgn, there is ‘Deadlocked’

The Ajay Devgn project will not be Bhat’s immediate next stop.

Before beginning work on the Hindi action drama, the filmmaker is expected to complete Deadlocked, his Hollywood debut starring Jamie Foxx.

The English-language action thriller follows a grieving former U.S. Marine who finds himself serving on a jury when armed attackers seize control of a courthouse.

The project represents a significant next step for Bhat after the international attention generated by Kill. It also gives him an opportunity to work within a completely different production environment before returning to Hindi cinema.

A potentially explosive combination

For Devgn, the collaboration arrives at an interesting point in his career. The actor remains one of Bollywood’s most dependable performers in the action genre, while Bhat is emerging as a filmmaker with a distinct visual language for hard-hitting combat.

That combination could be the biggest attraction of the project.

However, the film is still some distance away from reaching theatres. With production expected to begin only in the latter half of 2027, the makers have plenty of time to develop the screenplay and assemble the rest of the cast.

For now, the plot remains a closely guarded secret.

But one thing is already clear: Ajay Devgn and the director of Kill are joining forces for an action drama — and that combination alone is enough to make this one worth watching.
