‘Perhaps Toxic Is Far Ahead of Its Time’: Sumalatha Backs Yash Amid Negative Buzz, Says ‘You Outshine Yourself in Every Frame…’

While the gangster drama has faced criticism from a section of audiences and reviewers, several voices from the film industry have praised Yash for attempting something different. Now, actor and former Lok Sabha MP Sumalatha has joined those backing the Kannada superstar.

After watching Toxic, Sumalatha penned an emotional note for Yash on Instagram, describing the film as a “vibrant visual spectacle” and calling his performance “outstanding.”

Sumalatha Says Yash ‘Outshined Himself’ in Toxic

Addressing Yash directly, Sumalatha said she had always considered him a fearless performer willing to choose his own path rather than follow others.

But what impressed her most in Toxic, she said, was his growth as an actor.

“Your performance was outstanding — truly mind-blowing,” she wrote, adding that she felt proud watching Yash “outshine” himself throughout the film.

Sumalatha also described Toxic as an important milestone for both Yash and its filmmaker, praising the effort that went into creating its distinctive visual world.

Her comments come at a time when discussions around the movie have become increasingly polarised, particularly on social media.

‘Perhaps Toxic Is Simply Far Ahead of Its Time’

Sumalatha also directly addressed the negative conversation surrounding the film.

She told Yash that she believed he was sensible enough to take the criticism “with a pinch of salt” before suggesting there could be another explanation for the movie’s polarising reception.

“Perhaps Toxic is simply far ahead of its time,” she wrote.

She further suggested that certain aspects of the film may have been misunderstood or judged unfairly, while expressing confidence that Yash would move past the criticism and return even stronger.

Her message ended on an encouraging note, asking the actor not to stop experimenting or pushing himself.

“Don’t stop now… or ever. Keep rocking,” she wrote.

Toxic Faces Huge Expectations After KGF

The intense conversation surrounding Toxic is hardly surprising given the expectations attached to Yash after the enormous success of the KGF franchise.

Following his portrayal of Rocky Bhai, Yash became one of Indian cinema’s most recognisable pan-India stars. That meant his next major theatrical release was always going to face unusually high expectations.

Instead of simply attempting to recreate the KGF formula, however, Toxic presented audiences with a different gangster world under filmmaker Geetu Mohandas.

That creative shift has now become one of the biggest talking points surrounding the movie.

For some viewers, the film’s unconventional approach has been part of its appeal. For others, it has fallen short of the enormous expectations created before its release.

Sumalatha, though, appears firmly convinced that Yash’s performance and creative gamble deserve appreciation, regardless of the surrounding noise.

What Is Toxic About?

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is a gangster drama featuring Yash in dual roles.

The film also boasts a major ensemble cast including Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth.

It has been jointly produced by Venkat K Narayana and Yash under KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations LLP.

The film arrived in theatres on August 26, coinciding with the Onam period.

With debate around Toxic showing no signs of slowing down, Sumalatha’s message has added another voice to the conversation — one that believes Yash’s latest gamble may ultimately be judged differently with time.
