Kartik Aaryan Sets ‘Captain India’ Shoot After Knee Surgery: Shimit Amin’s Film to Roll in London From September 1

Kartik Aaryan is gearing up for another ambitious project following his recent knee surgery. The actor, who won a National Award for his performance in Kabir Khan’s Chandu Champion, is set to begin shooting for the much-awaited action drama Captain India.

The film will be directed by Shimit Amin, best known for helming Shah Rukh Khan’s Chak De! India, adding considerable excitement around Kartik’s next big-screen outing.

According to the available details, Captain India will go on floors on September 1, 2026, in London, with filming expected to continue until the end of October.

Captain India inspired by a daring evacuation mission

Captain India is described as an ambitious action drama inspired by true events surrounding an Indian evacuation mission from a war-torn country.

The story is expected to combine large-scale action with an emotional narrative centred around a dangerous rescue operation.

The film is being backed by T-Series’ Bhushan Kumar and Baweja Studios in association with Dopamine Studios, while S.B. Films is overseeing production.

The screenplay has been penned by Nash Vazifdar, Sanchit Gupta and Priyadarshee Shrivastava.

Apart from Kartik, the movie is also expected to feature an ensemble cast, although further casting details are awaited.

Captain India was first announced in 2021

Interestingly, Captain India has had a long journey before reaching its current form.

A project with the same title was originally announced in 2021, with filmmaker Hansal Mehta attached as director. At the time, Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP and Harman Baweja’s Baweja Studios were backing the project.

Kartik was set to portray a pilot involved in a major rescue mission, with principal photography initially expected to begin in early 2022.

The project has since undergone significant changes, with Shimit Amin now taking over the director’s chair and a new production and writing team shaping the upcoming film.

Kartik returning after knee injury

The upcoming schedule is particularly significant for Kartik Aaryan, who recently suffered a severe knee injury while filming an intense action sequence for Kabir Khan’s upcoming sports drama.

Following treatment and surgery, his planned return to filming with a demanding project such as Captain India will naturally attract attention.

The actor was most recently seen opposite Ananya Panday in Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, following his successful appearance in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.

Captain India gets Independence Day weekend release

The makers are currently targeting August 13, 2027, for the theatrical release of Captain India.

The date positions the film for the Independence Day weekend, an especially fitting window considering the movie’s India-centric rescue narrative.

Meanwhile, Kartik has a packed slate ahead. His upcoming projects include Naagzilla, currently scheduled for February 2027, along with planned collaborations with filmmakers Anurag Basu and Kabir Khan.

With Shimit Amin behind the camera, an ambitious evacuation story at its centre and Kartik returning to work after his injury, Captain India is shaping up to be one of the actor’s most closely watched upcoming projects.
