Air India Express Makes History at Navi Mumbai Airport: First International Flight to Abu Dhabi Takes Off From July 15

Mumbai: A significant milestone has been achieved for India’s rapidly expanding aviation infrastructure as Air India Express announced the launch of direct international flights from Navi Mumbai International Airport to Abu Dhabi.

With this announcement, Air India Express becomes the first airline to commence international operations from Maharashtra’s newest airport, marking a major step forward in the development of Navi Mumbai as a key aviation hub.

The new service is scheduled to begin on July 15, initially operating twice a week before expanding to three weekly flights from July 29.

A New International Gateway for the Mumbai Region

The launch is expected to significantly improve travel options for passengers across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, including residents of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Raigad district and surrounding areas.

For years, international travelers in the region have primarily relied on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The addition of international services from Navi Mumbai is expected to ease congestion at Mumbai’s existing airport while offering greater convenience and shorter travel times for many passengers.

Industry experts believe the move could transform travel patterns across western Maharashtra, especially for business professionals, tourists, and members of the Indian diaspora traveling to the Gulf region.

Abu Dhabi Route to Expand Within Weeks

According to Air India Express, the Navi Mumbai–Abu Dhabi route will initially operate twice weekly. Demand projections have already prompted plans to increase services to three flights per week beginning July 29.

The additional Sunday service will further strengthen connectivity between India and the United Arab Emirates, one of the busiest international travel corridors for Indian passengers.

Bookings for the route have already opened through the airline’s official channels and travel booking platforms.

Following the launch, the airline will operate approximately 30 weekly flights from the airport, connecting passengers to key destinations including Delhi, Bengaluru, and Abu Dhabi.

Air India Express continues to maintain a strong presence across Maharashtra, operating more than 95 weekly flights from Mumbai, over 100 weekly services from Pune, and regular operations from Nagpur.

The airline also operates one of India’s largest networks connecting the country to West Asia, serving destinations across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain.

The latest launch is expected to further strengthen these connections while providing passengers with additional travel flexibility.

The announcement comes as Air India Express continues promoting its “Xpress Wali Baat Hai” campaign featuring acclaimed actor Pankaj Tripathi.

The campaign focuses on affordability, onboard comfort, hot meals, and enhanced connectivity—key pillars of the airline’s growth strategy as it expands both within India and internationally.
