BMW India has introduced the new BMW 7 Series range in the country, giving its flagship luxury sedan a sharper design, upgraded technology and a choice between petrol and all-electric powertrains. Actor Ranveer Singh unveiled the new range and has also been announced as the Brand Voice for BMW India.

The refreshed line-up consists of three variants the BMW 740 M Sport, BMW i7 eDrive50 xDrive M Sport and the performance-focused BMW i7 M70 xDrive.

New BMW 7 Series price in India

The BMW 740 M Sport and BMW i7 eDrive50 xDrive M Sport have both been launched at an ex-showroom price of ₹1.95 crore, while the range-topping BMW i7 M70 xDrive costs ₹2.65 crore.

Bookings for the flagship sedan range are now open through authorised BMW India dealerships, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin in October 2026.

BMW gives its flagship sedan a fresh face

The new BMW 7 Series receives a substantial visual makeover designed to make the already imposing luxury sedan even more distinctive.

Among the highlights are the illuminated BMW Iconic Glow Kidney Grille, BMW Individual Crystal Headlights and a cleaner, more monolithic exterior treatment.

The M Sport package adds a more aggressive character through redesigned bumpers, larger air intakes, air curtains, an aerodynamic package and a rear diffuser. Buyers also get 20-inch alloy wheels, M Sport brakes with Dark Blue metallic callipers and several M-specific details.

BMW i7 M70 turns up the aggression

For buyers looking for considerably more performance, the BMW i7 M70 xDrive sits at the top of the electric range.

Its exterior receives several M-specific elements, including a more aggressive front apron, larger central air intake, air curtains and an M graphic incorporated into the illuminated kidney grille. Smoke-black crystal headlights, black exterior mirrors, M-specific side skirts, a wide rear diffuser and a subtle spoiler further distinguish the performance model.

More importantly, the i7 M70 xDrive uses a dual-motor electric powertrain, making it the performance flagship of the new range.

BMW says the electric flagship can deliver up to 1,100 Nm of torque when its maximum-performance functions are engaged, giving a limousine-sized luxury car the sort of performance normally associated with much smaller sports cars.

28-minute fast charging

Charging is another major highlight of the latest BMW i7.

The electric sedan supports up to 250 kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to go from 10% to 80% in around 28 minutes. BMW’s technical information also indicates that roughly 206-252 km of range can be added in just 10 minutes under suitable high-power charging conditions.

With a 22 kW AC charger, a complete charge takes around six hours. Actual charging times can vary depending on the charger, battery temperature and other conditions.

India gets a major manufacturing role

Perhaps the most significant announcement, however, concerns where the electric flagship will be built.

BMW will locally produce the new i7 at its Chennai plant, making India the only country outside Germany to manufacture the electric flagship.

The move is particularly significant as luxury carmakers continue to expand local manufacturing of their electric portfolios in the Indian market.

The high-performance BMW i7 M70 xDrive, however, will continue to arrive in India as a completely built-up unit (CBU).

BMW calls the 7 Series its ‘ultimate statement of modern luxury’

Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO of BMW Group India, described the latest 7 Series as the company’s “ultimate statement of modern luxury”, positioning the flagship as a car designed equally for customers who prefer to drive and those who would rather be chauffeured.

The new model also reflects BMW’s “Power of Choice” strategy, under which the company continues to offer combustion-engine cars alongside its growing electric portfolio.

With prices beginning at ₹1.95 crore, the refreshed BMW 7 Series and i7 sit firmly at the top end of India’s luxury sedan market. But beyond the styling and performance upgrades, local production of the i7 in Chennai could prove to be the most important part of this launch both for BMW’s electric ambitions and India’s growing role in the global luxury EV business.
