Dipika Kakar Opens Up on Cancer Battle After First Immunotherapy: “Experienced a lot of back pain”
Amid personal and family health struggles, the television actor shares an emotional update on her treatment journey and calls for support for husband Shoaib Ibrahim.
Television actor Dipika Kakar has shared insights into her ongoing battle with liver cancer following her first immunotherapy session. The actor, known for her strong screen presence and grounded personality, took to her YouTube vlog to connect directly with fans, offering a candid glimpse into both her physical and emotional state.
Dipika revealed that she underwent her first round of immunotherapy in the first week of June, marking a significant step in her treatment journey. While she maintained that there are no major alarming side effects so far, she did admit to experiencing severe back pain and a mild fever shortly after the session. Doctors, however, have confirmed that her reports remain normal, suggesting that these symptoms may not be directly linked to the medication.
“When such heavy drugs go into your body, you do feel lethargic. I experienced a lot of back pain. I also got a mild fever,” Dipika shared in her vlog, reassuring fans that her condition is being closely monitored.
The actress further explained that her treatment involves IV-based double immunotherapy infusions, with more sessions scheduled in the coming weeks. Alongside this, she is undergoing continuous monitoring through blood tumour markers and advanced scans, aimed at closely tracking the progression of her condition.
Family Struggles Add to Emotional Burden
Beyond her own health battle, Dipika also spoke about the emotional strain her family has been enduring. Her husband, Shoaib Ibrahim, has been navigating an especially challenging period after his father suffered a brain haemorrhage and was hospitalised in late May.

Dipika highlighted how these overlapping crises have taken a toll on Shoaib, describing this phase as one of the “toughest times” for him.
“He has already been very stressed about me, and when papa had this, it was very difficult for him… Please keep supporting him; he needs it the most right now,” she urged fans.
The situation has also been emotionally complex for Dipika herself, as she expressed regret over not being able to stand by her husband in the hospital this time due to her own fragile health—something she has always done in the past.

Balancing Health, Family, and Motherhood
Amid the ongoing challenges, the couple is also focusing on their young child, Ruhaan, ensuring that he receives attention and care despite the difficult circumstances.
Dipika’s words reflected resilience and hope, even in adversity. She acknowledged that the current phase is a “testing time”, but remained optimistic about recovery and better days ahead.
A Journey of Strength and Transparency
By sharing her journey so openly, Dipika continues to inspire many battling similar health issues. Her willingness to discuss not just the medical aspects but also the emotional realities of cancer treatment brings a much-needed human perspective to such conversations.
As she prepares for further treatment sessions, fans and well-wishers across the country continue to rally behind her, sending strength and prayers for her recovery.
