Vaibhav Suryavanshi has faced criticism after two consecutive low scores against England, but Team India may continue backing the teenage opener.

The spotlight is firmly on young batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi after the 15-year-old failed to make a big impact in his first two T20I matches against England.

The teenage opener, who created huge excitement among cricket fans after earning his maiden call-up to Team India, has managed only two low scores so far on the England tour. His consecutive failures have sparked a debate over whether the youngster should continue in the playing XI or make way for experienced wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson.

Two disappointing outings for India’s young star

Vaibhav made his much-awaited international debut with expectations running high. However, his first appearance ended with a quick dismissal after scoring just 14 runs.

In the third T20I at Nottingham, the young batter again failed to convert his start, getting dismissed for 13 runs off 5 balls. Although he showed his attacking ability by smashing two impressive sixes, he could not provide the strong start India were hoping for.

The back-to-back failures have led some fans and experts to question whether the youngster was introduced into international cricket too quickly.

Sanju Samson waiting for another opportunity

Vaibhav Suryavanshi was brought into the playing XI after Sanju Samson was left out of the team. Samson had featured in the opening match of the series before making way for the teenage opener.

With India’s batting struggling and the team searching for its first victory under captain Shreyas Iyer, discussions around Samson’s return have gained momentum.

The experienced batter could provide stability at the top of the order, especially in challenging English conditions where India’s young batting lineup has struggled.

Will Team India continue backing Vaibhav?

Despite his recent failures, the chances of Vaibhav being dropped immediately appear unlikely.

The Indian team management is reportedly keen to give the youngster enough opportunities to prove himself at the highest level. After making a bold decision to introduce a 15-year-old into international cricket, the selectors may prefer patience over a quick change.

Vaibhav was not included in India’s earlier T20I series against Ireland, meaning the England matches represent his first major opportunity to showcase his talent on the international stage.

India searching for answers after disappointing tour

India’s struggles have gone beyond one player’s performance. The team is yet to register a win under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy and previously suffered a 2-0 series defeat against Ireland before facing England.

With pressure increasing on the new leadership group, every selection decision has become important.

For now, Vaibhav Suryavanshi appears set to receive more backing, but another failure could force the management to rethink their opening combination and bring Sanju Samson back into the spotlight.
