‘It Progressed Massively’: Sumona Chakravarti opens up about endometriosis surgery after Two-month social media break
The actor shared an emotional health update, revealed her surgery journey, and spoke candidly about online trolling, healing, and creating a safe digital space for women.
Actor Sumona Chakravarti has made a heartfelt return to social media after staying away for nearly two months, revealing that she recently underwent surgery for Endometriosis, a condition she has been battling for years.
The 38-year-old actor shared an emotional note, opening up about how the illness had “progressed massively” despite her efforts to manage it over time. Sumona said the past few weeks were dedicated entirely to healing both physically and mentally.
“Hellooo there! Happy to resurface after a long time. I’ve been living under a rock for the last two months,” she wrote, marking her return to Instagram.
The actress revealed that she consciously took a break from social media and underwent excision surgery after her condition worsened. Reflecting on the challenging phase, she expressed gratitude to her doctor and medical team for supporting her throughout the recovery.
Despite the difficult journey, Sumona reassured fans that she is now doing much better.
“I’m well. In fact, very well,” she shared, offering relief to her followers who had been wondering about her absence.
But her note wasn’t just about her health.
Sumona also used the opportunity to speak honestly about her changing relationship with social media. She admitted that there were moments when she felt like deleting platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp altogether, but eventually realised that disconnecting entirely wasn’t practical.
“After all, I’m not retiring to the mountains just yet. I have work. Family. Friends. Life,” she wrote with humour.
The actor made it clear that she has never been driven by the “number game” of followers, likes, or comments. Instead, she now wants to use her platform more meaningfully — to create conversations around women’s health, mental wellness, perimenopause, endometriosis, and personal choices like being single, child-free, or part of a DINK (Double Income No Kids) lifestyle.
In a powerful part of her note, Sumona also addressed the darker side of being a public figure. She revealed that over the years, she has faced body-shaming and crude comments online, most of which, she pointed out, came from men.

Still, she said she understands that such criticism often “comes with the territory” of being a female actor. But she made one thing clear it will never stop her.
“I will continue to work and act till my very last breath,” she affirmed.

Sumona also said she has largely kept her personal life private and intends to continue doing so. However, she believes in speaking up when her experiences can help others feel less alone.
On the professional front, Sumona began her journey as a child actor before featuring in popular TV shows like Kasamh Se and Bade Achhe Lagte Hain. She rose to massive popularity as Manju Sharma, the on-screen wife of Kapil Sharma in Comedy Nights with Kapil, and later became a familiar face in The Kapil Sharma Show.
She has also appeared in reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi 14 and the critically acclaimed film Barfi!.
With her candid post, Sumona has not only updated fans on her health but also sparked an important conversation around a condition many women silently struggle with.
