Shekhar Suman Says ‘I Haven’t Slept for Three Days’ After Jantar Mantar Protest Clash: ‘I Could Only Cry…’

Actor and television host Shekhar Suman became emotional during the latest episode of his talk show Shekhar Tonite, where he spoke about the police action that took place during the ‘Chalo Sansad’ march organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

Addressing viewers at the beginning of the episode, Suman said the images from the protest had left a lasting impact on him, revealing that he had been unable to sleep for three days after watching the incident unfold.“I haven’t been able to sleep for three days; I have done nothing but cry,” the actor said while describing his emotional reaction to the visuals.

Actor Questions Police Action Against Students

Speaking about the events of July 20, Shekhar Suman questioned the action taken against the protesting students and asked what their fault was in raising concerns about their future and the education system.

He said the young demonstrators were demanding reforms and justice, adding that their voices deserved to be heard rather than met with force.

During his remarks, Suman expressed concern over the treatment of students, saying the incident had deeply disturbed him.

‘The Youth Must Be Heard’

Using a historical analogy, the actor said societies face difficult moments when the voices of young people are ignored.

Referring to the Mahabharata, Suman remarked that major conflicts often begin when those in authority stop listening to the next generation. He urged decision-makers to engage with the concerns of young citizens instead of dismissing them.

According to Suman, attempts to suppress such voices only strengthen public resolve over time.

The remarks come amid continuing protests at Jantar Mantar, where students and other demonstrators have been demanding action over alleged irregularities in NEET and other competitive examinations.
