Ravi Kishan Defends Gorakhpur Waterlogging With Amitabh Bachchan Comparison: ‘Even Mumbai Faces Flooding’

BJP MP and actor Ravi Kishan has defended Gorakhpur amid criticism over waterlogging following recent rainfall, arguing that flooding during the monsoon is a challenge faced by several major Indian cities.

Speaking in an interview with The Indian Express, Kishan responded to questions about reports of waterlogging in parts of Gorakhpur after just two days of rain. The discussion also referred to his earlier remarks comparing the city’s development with that of Spain, a statement that had gone viral on social media.

Invokes Amitabh Bachchan While Making His Point

While addressing the issue, Ravi Kishan used Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan as an example to illustrate that even developed metropolitan areas are not immune to flooding during the monsoon.“Amitabh Bachchan lives in this much water,” Kishan said, gesturing to indicate the water level.

He further added that every monsoon, heavy rainfall in Mumbai often results in water entering residential areas, claiming that even the furniture in the homes of major Bollywood stars gets affected during severe flooding.

‘Flooding Is Not Limited to Gorakhpur’

Defending the city’s infrastructure, Kishan maintained that Gorakhpur has witnessed rapid development in recent years and argued that waterlogging is not unique to Uttar Pradesh.

When questioned about flooding after only a few days of rainfall, he responded by pointing to similar situations in other metropolitan cities.“Have you been to Bengaluru? Have you seen Delhi?” he asked, suggesting that urban flooding remains a nationwide challenge rather than an issue exclusive to Gorakhpur.

Urges Residents to Appreciate the City’s Progress

The BJP parliamentarian also appealed to people to recognise the transformation that Gorakhpur has undergone over the years.

According to Kishan, the city has seen significant improvements in infrastructure and development, and isolated incidents of waterlogging should not overshadow its overall progress.

Ending his remarks on a positive note, he encouraged residents to take pride in their hometown.“Love your own city,” Ravi Kishan said.

Ravi Kishan’s comments have once again drawn attention on social media, with supporters arguing that monsoon-related flooding affects cities across India, while critics maintain that recurring waterlogging highlights the need for stronger urban drainage and infrastructure planning.
