Rakul Preet Singh Reveals She Entered Films for a ₹5 Lakh Paycheque: ‘I Wanted to Be the First in My Friend Group to Own a Car’

Actor Rakul Preet Singh has revealed that her journey into the film industry began completely by accident. Speaking about her early days, the actress shared that she had never imagined becoming an actor and accepted her first film primarily because of the ₹5 lakh paycheck it offered.

In a recent interview, Rakul recalled that she was pursuing a Mathematics degree in college when an unexpected opportunity from the Kannada film industry changed the course of her career.

A Chance Opportunity That Changed Everything

Rakul revealed that just days after getting a portfolio shoot done, someone from the film industry noticed her photographs and contacted her family with an acting offer.

At the time, she was still in the first year of college and was unsure whether she should step into films.“The Kannada film industry happened to me by chance. I was still in college when someone saw my pictures and reached out to my father saying they wanted to cast me,” Rakul shared.

She admitted that she initially had no clear plans of becoming an actress.

‘I Said Yes Because I Wanted to Buy a Car’

The actress candidly revealed that the attractive paycheck became the deciding factor behind accepting the film.“The only reason I did that film was because I was getting paid ₹5 lakh. I thought I would be the first one in my friend group to have a car, and that would be so cool,” she said.

What started as a practical decision soon turned into a life-changing experience.

Discovering a Passion for Acting

Rakul recalled spending nearly 40 days shooting for her debut project, an experience that completely changed her perspective.

Working in front of the camera made her realize that acting was something she genuinely enjoyed.

After completing the film, she decided to focus on finishing her graduation before pursuing acting as a full-time career.

The actress later made her full-fledged return to cinema in 2013, marking the beginning of a successful journey across multiple film industries.

Reflecting on her early career, Rakul said there was no clear strategy or guidance available when she entered the entertainment industry.

She explained that she learned everything through experience and often prioritized her education over professional opportunities.

According to the actress, she even turned down several major film offers because she did not want to miss college classes or fall short of the required attendance.

From Debut to Pan-India Success

Rakul made her acting debut with the 2009 Kannada romantic drama Gilli, directed by Raghav Loki and co-starring Gururaj Jaggesh.

After completing her studies, she returned to films with Venkatadri Express (2013), which helped establish her as a leading actress.

Over the years, she has starred in several successful films, including Loukyam, Pandaga Chesko, Nannaku Prematho, Sarrainodu, Dhruva, Spyder, Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru, and Ayalaan, building a successful career across Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi cinema.
