Mustafa Zahid Reacts to Amaal Mallik’s Awarapan 2 Song Recreation: ‘Borders Are Dangerous, But So Is Love’
Mustafa Zahid’s heartfelt message to Amaal Mallik over Awarapan 2’s recreated soundtrack has struck an emotional chord with fans.

Nearly two decades after Awarapan carved its place as a cult favourite, the film’s haunting music is set to return with its sequel and fans are already emotional.

The buzz around Awarapan 2 intensified after singer-composer Amaal Mallik announced that he has recreated the iconic track ‘To Phir Aao’ as the title song for the upcoming film.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Amaal described the track as the best song of his career, calling the opportunity a dream he had held onto for nearly two decades.

In his heartfelt post, Amaal thanked producer Mukesh Bhatt and Vishesh Films for trusting him with the legacy of one of Bollywood’s most beloved soundtracks.

But what truly grabbed attention was Amaal’s tribute to the original voice behind the soundtrack Pakistani singer Mustafa Zahid, whose renditions of To Phir Aao and Tera Mera Rishta became timeless fan favourites.

Amaal called Mustafa his “brother from another mother” and praised the emotional depth in his voice, writing that the emptiness in Mustafa’s rendition still “haunts and heals” him.

Mustafa’s reply added even more emotion to the exchange.

Reposting Amaal’s message, Mustafa wrote: “Lots of love Amaal, remember borders are dangerous but then so is love. Take Awarapan legacy to another level, the stage is all yours mere bhai.”

The line instantly resonated with fans across India and Pakistan, with many calling it a rare and beautiful reminder of how music can transcend political boundaries.

The announcement comes just days after the makers unveiled the teaser of Awarapan 2 on the occasion of the original film’s 19th anniversary.

The sequel sees Emraan Hashmi returning as Shivam, the conflicted hitman whose journey in the first film won over audiences despite the movie’s modest box office run.

Joining him this time are Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi, Suvinder Vicky, Vijayant Kohli, and Atul Kumar.

Directed by Nitin Kakkar and written by Bilal Siddiqui, the film is slated for a theatrical release on August 14.

The original Awarapan, directed by Mohit Suri, may not have been a box office success in 2007, but over the years, it earned cult status largely because of its unforgettable soundtrack and emotional storytelling.

Now, with old melodies reborn and emotions running high, Awarapan 2 has all eyes on it.
