Mercedes-Benz unveils new S-Class: India’s favourite luxury sedan gets its most dvanced upgrade yet

The legendary Mercedes-Benz S-Class, long considered India’s most aspirational luxury car, has entered a new era with its latest and most comprehensive update yet.

Marking 140 years since Carl Benz invented the automobile in 1886, the newest generation of the S-Class has been positioned as the ultimate expression of luxury, innovation, and engineering excellence from Mercedes-Benz.

More than just a facelift, the latest S-Class represents a near-complete transformation, with over 50% of its components — nearly 2,700 parts — either newly developed or significantly re-engineered.

The result is a sedan that not only preserves its legacy but pushes firmly into the future of mobility.

At first glance, the new S-Class stands out with a more commanding presence. A redesigned silhouette is complemented by an all-new illuminated grille, which is 20% larger and decorated with three-dimensional chrome star elements — a signature design cue that reinforces its premium identity.

The lighting technology has also been upgraded significantly. The new digital twin-star headlamps and redesigned rear taillights create a distinctive visual signature both day and night, while side sill lighting projects the “Mercedes-Benz” welcome animation onto the ground — turning every arrival into a ceremonial experience.

Inside, the S-Class continues to define modern luxury.

At the heart of the cabin is the advanced Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), a powerful digital architecture that controls everything from driving dynamics to infotainment and safety systems. The system functions like a high-performance supercomputer, integrating multiple vehicle domains into a seamless digital ecosystem.

Supporting this intelligence is an extensive sensor suite, including ten external cameras, five radar units, and twelve ultrasonic sensors. These work alongside AI-driven algorithms trained on real-world driving data to enhance safety, awareness, and assistance systems on the road.

The cabin experience is anchored by the futuristic MBUX Superscreen, which integrates a 14.4-inch central display with a 12.3-inch passenger screen under a single glass panel. While the driver receives focused, intuitive information, the front passenger can enjoy entertainment options such as streaming and apps, subject to regional safety regulations.

A smart privacy system ensures driver safety by automatically adjusting screen visibility when required. The digital instrument cluster appears to float behind the steering wheel, enhancing clarity and visual depth, while customizable ambient themes elevate the overall mood of the cabin.

Rear passengers, meanwhile, are treated to what feels like a luxury lounge on wheels.

A full-length centre console houses wireless charging, USB-C fast charging ports, and temperature-controlled cupholders. Dual detachable MBUX rear controllers allow passengers to manage climate settings, window shades, and entertainment systems with ease.

The 13.1-inch rear entertainment displays also support high-definition video conferencing through platforms like Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Webex, making the S-Class a mobile executive workspace.

Adding to the immersive experience is a Burmester 31-speaker sound system with Dolby Atmos, along with integrated seat exciters that transform audio into a tactile experience.

Under the hood, the S-Class now offers a plug-in hybrid powertrain that delivers around 100 km of electric-only range. It combines a refined 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine with an electric motor producing a combined output of approximately 435 bhp and 680 Nm of torque.

This ensures that the S-Class continues to deliver its signature smooth performance while aligning with the global shift toward electrification.

Deliveries of the new model are set to begin in October, further strengthening its position as the benchmark in luxury sedans.
