Mahindra XEV 9S has become India's best-selling electric passenger vehicle in Q1 FY27, overtaking the MG Windsor EV in wholesale sales.

Mahindra & Mahindra has added another milestone to its growing electric vehicle journey, with the Mahindra XEV 9S emerging as India’s best-selling electric passenger vehicle during the first quarter of FY27.

According to wholesale sales figures for the four-wheeler passenger vehicle segment, the flagship electric SUV has overtaken the MG Windsor EV, ending its run at the top of the country’s EV sales rankings.

The achievement reflects the increasing demand for premium electric SUVs in India and highlights Mahindra’s growing influence in the rapidly expanding EV market.

Three Battery Options for Different Driving Needs

The Mahindra XEV 9S is offered with three battery pack options, allowing buyers to choose a model based on their driving requirements.

The entry-level version features a 59 kWh battery pack, paired with a rear-mounted electric motor that produces 227 bhp and 380 Nm of torque.

The mid-spec 70 kWh battery delivers 241.3 bhp while maintaining the same 380 Nm torque output through a rear-wheel-drive configuration.

At the top of the lineup is a 79 kWh battery pack, which powers a more potent rear-mounted electric motor generating 281 bhp and 380 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful version in the range.

Available Across Six Variants

Mahindra has positioned the XEV 9S as a premium flagship SUV by offering it in six different variants.

The lineup includes:

  • Pack One Above 79 kWh
  • Pack Two Above 70 kWh
  • Pack Two Above 79 kWh
  • Pack Three 79 kWh
  • Pack Three Above 79 kWh

This broad variant strategy enables buyers to select different combinations of battery capacity, equipment, and technology based on their preferences.

Technology Takes Centre Stage Inside the Cabin

One of the biggest highlights of the XEV 9S is its technology-focused interior.

The SUV introduces MAIA AI, Mahindra’s next-generation artificial intelligence platform that integrates infotainment, connected vehicle functions, and multiple in-car controls into a unified digital ecosystem.

The dashboard features an impressive triple-screen display, while rear passengers receive BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) entertainment screens, enhancing the overall travel experience.

Other premium features include a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a VisionX augmented reality head-up display, 65W fast charging ports, ambient lighting, and a full-length panoramic sky roof.

Mahindra has also equipped the SUV with an advanced AQI-based air purification system featuring VR-assisted LED monitoring for improved cabin air quality.

Advanced Safety Package

Safety remains a major focus for the flagship electric SUV.

The Mahindra XEV 9S comes equipped with seven airbags as standard and offers Level-2+ Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

The safety suite is powered by five radar sensors and one vision camera, enabling multiple driver assistance functions, including Driver Drowsiness Detection.

The SUV is built on Mahindra’s INGLO platform, designed with a high-rigidity body structure and optimised battery placement to improve both crash safety and vehicle dynamics.
