Watch: Kieron Pollard, Steve Smith In Heated On-Field Exchange During MLC 2026 Thriller… Despite Pollard’s Historic Milestone
Tempers flared between Kieron Pollard and Steve Smith during the MLC 2026 Eliminator as Washington Freedom pulled off a record-breaking run chase, overshadowing Pollard’s milestone of 1,000 T20 sixes.
A fiery moment between Kieron Pollard and Steve Smith stole the spotlight during the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2026 Eliminator at the Oakland Coliseum, as emotions ran high in one of the most dramatic T20 matches in recent memory.
The experienced duo exchanged words during MI New York’s defence of a massive total, with the incident quickly going viral across social media.
Pollard and Smith Exchange Heated Words
The flashpoint came during one of Pollard’s overs after Steve Smith had already struck him for three sixes.
Attempting to unsettle the Australian batter, Pollard bowled a short delivery on the final ball of the over. Smith attempted an unconventional flat-batted stroke but failed to time it cleanly. Pollard gathered the ball and threw it back in Smith’s direction after the play had ended. Smith managed to avoid the throw before smiling and responding verbally.
The two players exchanged a few words before the on-field umpires stepped in to calm the situation and prevent the confrontation from escalating.
Steve Smith Survives Multiple Chances
Despite the tense exchange, fortune continued to favour Steve Smith throughout his innings.
Earlier in the match, Pollard injured the little finger on his left hand while attempting a catch when Smith was batting on 69. The injury forced Pollard to leave the field temporarily.
Smith then survived a missed run-out opportunity involving Trent Boult and Quinton de Kock, before being handed two more reprieves as catches were dropped during his innings.
Making full use of those opportunities, Smith went on to score a magnificent century.

Washington Freedom Create T20 History
Joining forces with Andries Gous, Smith produced one of the greatest partnerships in franchise T20 cricket.
The pair stitched together a stunning 241-run stand for the third wicket, with both batters reaching three figures as Washington Freedom successfully chased down 267 runs.
The victory marked the highest successful run chase in T20 cricket history, making it one of the most memorable matches in the tournament’s history.
Historic Milestone for Kieron Pollard

Although MI New York ended on the losing side, Pollard achieved a remarkable personal milestone with the bat.
The veteran all-rounder blasted 64 runs off just 25 balls, smashing eight sixes and one four. During the innings, he struck the 1,000th six of his T20 career off Saurabh Netravalkar, becoming only the second batter after Chris Gayle to reach the landmark.
Pollard also raced to his half-century in just 17 deliveries, underlining his reputation as one of the most destructive finishers in T20 cricket.
Following the match, Pollard’s tally stands at 1,001 T20 sixes, while Chris Gayle continues to lead the all-time list with 1,056 sixes.
