Honda to Launch New Two-Wheelers in India During H2 FY27; HMSI Bullish on Market Growth | Dainik Diary
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has confirmed plans to introduce new two-wheelers in the second half of FY27 as it remains optimistic about the long-term growth of the Indian market.

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) is doubling down on its India strategy, expressing strong confidence in the long-term growth of the country’s two-wheeler market while confirming plans to introduce a fresh range of products during the second half of FY27.

The announcement comes as the Indian automobile industry continues to witness steady demand, particularly in the premium motorcycle and scooter segments, prompting manufacturers to expand their portfolios.

Honda Sees Long-Term Growth in India

Speaking to PTI, HMSI President and CEO Tsutsumu Otani said India remains one of Honda‘s most important global markets, and the company intends to align its future products with changing customer expectations.

According to Otani, several factors are expected to continue supporting the growth of India’s two-wheeler industry, including:

  • Improving rural infrastructure
  • Rising demand for personal mobility
  • Greater participation of women in the workforce
  • Increasing preference for premium two-wheelers

These trends, he said, are expected to sustain industry momentum over the coming years.

Industry Continues to Grow

The optimism follows a strong performance by the Indian two-wheeler market during FY26.

According to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), domestic two-wheeler wholesales reached 2.17 crore units in FY26, compared to 1.96 crore units in FY25, representing a growth of 10.7%.

The increase has largely been attributed to improved rural demand, premiumisation, stronger exports and supportive government policies.

New Honda Models Coming in H2 FY27

Honda has confirmed that new products are in the pipeline, although the company has not yet revealed details regarding the upcoming motorcycles or scooters.

Otani said Honda plans to introduce new models in the second half of FY27, a period when demand traditionally increases with the onset of the festive season, especially around Diwali.

The company says its focus remains on offering products that cater to evolving consumer preferences while strengthening both its domestic business and export operations.

Moderate Growth Expected This Financial Year

While Honda remains optimistic about the overall market, the company expects industry growth to moderate during FY27 after the strong performance recorded last year.

Otani said the outlook for the second half of the financial year will depend on multiple external factors, including:

  • The quality of the monsoon, which significantly influences rural purchasing power.
  • Global geopolitical developments affecting logistics and supply chains.
  • Fluctuations in raw material prices.
  • Overall consumer sentiment.

Despite these uncertainties, Honda remains focused on achieving sustainable growth in India.

Electric Mobility Still a Key Priority

Honda also reaffirmed its long-term commitment to electric mobility, while acknowledging that India’s transportation landscape will continue to feature multiple technologies for the foreseeable future.

According to the company, the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) will depend on several factors, including affordability, charging infrastructure, convenience and customer usage patterns.

As a result, Honda believes internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, EVs and alternative fuel technologies are all likely to coexist as the market gradually evolves.

The company says its strategy is to deliver practical, reliable and customer-focused mobility solutions while expanding its electric vehicle portfolio in line with market demand and infrastructure readiness.

With fresh products planned and confidence in India’s long-term growth story, Honda appears set to strengthen its position in one of the world’s largest two-wheeler markets over the coming years.
