Delhi Witnesses High Drama as Protest March Escalates Near Parliament
New Delhi: The national capital witnessed heightened political tension on Monday after the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) led a massive march towards Parliament, triggering clashes between protesters and security personnel near Jantar Mantar. The demonstration, attended by a large number of students, youth activists, and supporters, prompted authorities to tighten security across central Delhi.
According to eyewitnesses, the march began peacefully from Mandi House, but the atmosphere quickly turned tense as protesters attempted to move towards restricted areas near Parliament. Security personnel intervened to prevent the crowd from advancing, leading to confrontations that eventually resulted in the use of batons to disperse demonstrators.
Several protesters were reportedly detained as police worked to restore order in the area.
Metro Services Disrupted Across Central Delhi
To prevent any security concerns, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) temporarily shut down five metro stations before the protest began. The precautionary move disrupted travel for thousands of commuters during peak hours.
Although the gates at Central Secretariat and Rajiv Chowk stations were reopened later to allow interchange services, passengers continued to face delays, congestion, and unexpected route changes throughout the day. Many office-goers and students expressed frustration over the disruption caused by the security arrangements.
Heavy Security Presence Around Parliament
The Delhi Police deployed a large number of personnel around Parliament Street, Jantar Mantar, and surrounding government buildings to prevent protesters from entering restricted zones.
In addition to barricades and rapid response teams, authorities reportedly suspended mobile internet services in parts of central Delhi as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order.

Despite these restrictions, thousands of protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar, raising slogans and demanding action on various public issues.
Sonam Wangchuk Links Hunger Strike to Education Reforms
Amid the protests, activist Sonam Wangchuk announced that he would be willing to end his ongoing hunger strike if the Central Government accepts responsibility for shortcomings in the education system or if Members of Parliament agree to raise the issue during the ongoing parliamentary session.
His statement added another significant dimension to the day’s developments, drawing attention to broader concerns over education policy while the political demonstrations continued in the capital.
Authorities Urge Citizens to Remain Cautious
Officials advised commuters to stay updated through official traffic and metro advisories before travelling in central Delhi. Security agencies remained on alert throughout the day to prevent any further escalation of the situation.
