‘It Was the Icing on the Cake’: Dasun Shanaka Creates T20 History With Stunning Double Hat-Trick in Major League Cricket

Dasun Shanaka Scripts T20 Magic With Rare Double Hat-Trick in Major League Cricket
In a sport where momentum can change within a single over, Dasun Shanaka produced a moment of pure cricketing theatre that fans will remember for years. The Sri Lankan all-rounder achieved the rare feat of claiming a double hat-trick during a dramatic Major League Cricket (MLC) clash between the Seattle Orcas and the Texas Super Kings.
With the match hanging in the balance, Shanaka was handed the responsibility of defending 15 runs in the final over. What followed was a breathtaking sequence that turned a tense contest into a historic night.
The over began on a difficult note for Shanaka as Shubham Ranjane struck a boundary off the first delivery. Ranjane then rotated the strike with a single, leaving the Texas Super Kings in a strong position to chase down the target.
However, the game changed instantly when Shanaka dismissed dangerous finisher Donovan Ferreira on the third ball of the over. The breakthrough sparked a remarkable collapse.

On the very next delivery, Calvin Savage departed for a duck after being caught by Shimron Hetmyer. Shanaka then completed his hat-trick by removing Adam Milne, sending the Seattle camp into celebration.
Yet the drama was not over.
The Sri Lankan star delivered another wicket on the final ball of the innings, dismissing Amshi de Silva and turning his hat-trick into a sensational double hat-trick — a feat rarely seen in the T20 format.
Despite Ranjane’s fighting knock of 40 runs from 44 balls, the Texas Super Kings lost wickets rapidly at the other end and eventually fell short by nine runs.

Speaking after the match, Shanaka expressed his delight at achieving the milestone.
“It feels amazing to get a double hat-trick. It’s a different stage, but really happy. I had a bad day when we played in San Francisco. I knew it was going to be myself or Stoinis bowling at the end. After Stoinis finished his overs, it was me left for the last over. Donovan is the kind of player who can finish games from nowhere, so getting his wicket was crucial. It was the icing on the cake,” Shanaka said.
The remarkable finish not only secured victory for the Seattle Orcas but also strengthened their position in the Major League Cricket standings, with the franchise continuing its impressive campaign.
For Shanaka, the achievement adds another memorable chapter to his career. While T20 cricket has witnessed countless thrilling finishes, a double hat-trick under pressure in the final over remains one of the rarest accomplishments in the game.
As fans and cricket experts continue to discuss the incredible spell, Shanaka’s unforgettable over has already become one of the standout moments of the MLC 2026 season.
