BMW Group India dominates the luxury EV segment with a 69% market share as electric cars and premium SUVs drive record growth in 2026.

The luxury electric vehicle market in India is witnessing a major shift, and BMW Group India is emerging as the biggest beneficiary of this transformation.

The German luxury automaker has secured an impressive 69% share of India’s luxury EV segment, with electric vehicle sales growing by 78% year-on-year to 2,359 units during the first half of 2026.

Electric vehicles now account for nearly 26% of BMW Group India’s total new vehicle sales, meaning almost one out of every four vehicles sold by the company is powered by electricity.

BMW India Achieves Record First-Half Sales

BMW Group India recorded its best-ever January-June performance in 2026, delivering 9,075 cars, representing a 17% year-on-year growth.

The company also maintained strong momentum in the second quarter, selling 4,507 vehicles between April and June 2026, continuing its streak of double-digit quarterly growth.

Speaking about the performance, Hardeep Singh Brar highlighted that the company’s focus remains on consistent growth despite challenging market conditions.

According to Brar, BMW’s strong position in electric mobility has helped it become the preferred choice among luxury EV buyers in India.

Electric Cars Become BMW’s Biggest Growth Engine

BMW’s electric vehicle strategy appears to be paying off as Indian luxury buyers increasingly move towards premium EVs.

The company’s electric lineup, including models from BMW and MINI, has attracted customers looking for a combination of luxury, technology and sustainable mobility.

The rising demand reflects a broader trend in India where premium buyers are showing greater interest in electric vehicles, especially as charging infrastructure improves across major cities.

Long-Wheelbase BMW Models Gain Popularity Among Luxury Buyers

Apart from electric cars, BMW’s long-wheelbase models also played a major role in the company’s growth story.

BMW Group India sold 4,428 long-wheelbase vehicles in the first six months of 2026, registering a 24% increase compared to the previous year.

These models contributed 52% of the company’s total sales, showing that Indian customers continue to prefer vehicles offering additional cabin space, comfort and premium features.

SUVs Continue To Drive BMW’s Sales Growth

Luxury SUVs remain one of the strongest segments for BMW in India.

The company’s Sports Activity Vehicles (SAVs), including models under BMW and MINI, recorded sales growth of 35% year-on-year, reaching 5,926 units.

These vehicles contributed nearly 65% of BMW Group India’s overall sales volume during the first half of 2026.

The iconic British marque MINI also delivered impressive results.

MINI sales increased by 70% year-on-year to 504 units during the January-June period.

The newly launched MINI Countryman C has received strong customer interest, while the MINI Countryman continues to remain the brand’s best-selling model in India.

It is followed by popular models such as the MINI Convertible and MINI Hatch.
