Sydney Sixers Leading the Race
The report claims that the Sydney Sixers are in pole position largely because of the presence of Matthew Mott in the franchise’s coaching setup.
Mott previously worked closely with Stokes during his tenure as England’s white-ball head coach, and that existing relationship is believed to strengthen the Sixers’ chances of signing the all-rounder.

Cricket Tasmania CEO Dom Baker acknowledged that acquiring a player of Stokes’ stature would be a significant opportunity for the franchise.
According to Baker, any chance to sign a player capable of filling stadiums would be seriously considered.

Although Stokes announced his retirement from Test cricket in June 2026, speculation about a possible comeback refuses to disappear.
England men’s managing director Rob Key recently suggested that the possibility of Stokes returning should not be dismissed entirely.
Speaking about the prospect of an Ashes 2027 comeback, Key remarked that “anything is possible” when it comes to Stokes, adding that such a return would make for a remarkable story.

Stokes brought the curtain down on an outstanding Test career after representing England in 122 Test matches.
During that period, he scored 7,273 runs and claimed 252 wickets, establishing himself as one of the country’s greatest modern-day all-rounders.
His retirement announcement came only days after reports emerged of an altercation involving him at a nightclub in London, although the cricketing world largely focused on celebrating his extraordinary achievements on the field.
