‘I had 48 stitches and two surgeries…’: Akhil Akkineni reveals painful accident that kept him away from films for over a year
The actor says a freak bathroom accident severely injured his hand, delaying his comeback after Agent as he now gears up for the release of Lenin.
Akhil Akkineni has finally revealed the reason behind his long absence from the big screen, sharing that a serious accident and a lengthy recovery period kept him away from films for nearly 16 months.
Speaking in a recent interview, the actor disclosed that just three months after the release of his previous film, Agent, he suffered a severe injury after slipping on a wet bathroom floor and falling onto a piece of broken glass.
The accident resulted in major injuries to his left hand, forcing him to undergo two surgeries and receive 48 stitches. According to Akhil, the recovery process was far more challenging than many people realized and significantly delayed his return to work.
The actor explained that the broken glass severed both a vein and a nerve, affecting the ring finger and middle finger of his left hand. Due to the complexity of the injury, doctors performed delicate microsurgery, followed by an extended period of rehabilitation.
Akhil revealed that rebuilding strength and movement in his hand took nearly 16 months, while he was unable to lift weights or perform intensive physical training for seven to eight months during his recovery.

Reflecting on the gap in his career, the actor admitted that a three-year break between theatrical releases is significant for any performer. However, he emphasized that the delay was caused entirely by circumstances beyond his control.
Now fully recovered, Akhil is preparing for the release of his upcoming film Lenin, which is scheduled to hit theatres on July 10.

The recently released trailer has generated positive buzz, receiving appreciation from several leading stars of the Telugu film industry, including Mahesh Babu, Ram Charan, and Nani.
Speaking about the project, Akhil described Lenin as a story rooted in pure love while also offering a balanced mix of romance, action, and drama. He said he prefers films that combine multiple emotions rather than focusing exclusively on a single genre.
Directed against the backdrop of Chittoor in the late 1980s, the film unfolds during the traditional Bharata Metta Jathara, promising a blend of rural culture, emotional storytelling and commercial entertainment.
Bhagyashri Borse stars opposite Akhil as the female lead, and expectations are high as the actor looks to make a strong comeback after one of the most difficult phases of his personal and professional life.
With his health now restored and Lenin ready for release, Akhil Akkineni hopes to turn the page on a challenging chapter and reconnect with audiences on the big screen.
