Poco is preparing to introduce its next generation of performance-focused smartphones globally, and the company has now confirmed one of the most important details ahead of launch the processors powering them.
The upcoming Poco F9 series is scheduled to make its global debut on September 1, 2026, with the lineup expected to consist of the Poco F9 Pro and the more powerful Poco F9 Ultra.
Interestingly, a standard Poco F9 currently appears unlikely to be part of the initial lineup.
The two devices are widely expected to be closely related to Xiaomi’s Redmi K100 series sold in China, continuing Poco’s familiar strategy of adapting select Redmi performance phones for international markets.
Poco F9 Ultra gets Qualcomm’s flagship chip
Poco has confirmed through its official social media account that the F9 series will use processors from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 family.
The flagship Poco F9 Ultra will be powered by the full-fledged Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, positioning it firmly among high-end Android smartphones.
The Poco F9 Pro, meanwhile, will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V, a binned version of the flagship chipset.
That distinction is likely to become one of the major differences between the two phones, particularly for users interested in sustained gaming performance and demanding workloads.
Poco F9 Pro could get a 185Hz OLED display
While Poco has yet to reveal the complete specifications, previous reports suggest the F9 Pro could feature a 6.59-inch QHD+ Plastic OLED display with an exceptionally fast 185Hz refresh rate.
If accurate, that refresh rate would make the device particularly interesting for mobile gamers and users looking for extremely fluid animations and scrolling.
The larger Poco F9 Ultra is tipped to feature a 6.85-inch display with a resolution of 2,608 x 1,200 pixels.
Both smartphones are expected to offer configurations with up to 16GB RAM and 512GB internal storage, giving the F9 series hardware specifications worthy of Poco’s performance-first positioning.
Dark Cherry or a phone that actually glows?
Poco is also giving the two devices noticeably different visual identities.
The Poco F9 Ultra has been confirmed in a Dark Cherry colourway featuring a glass-fibre finish, giving the flagship model a more conventional premium appearance.
The Poco F9 Pro, however, gets the more unusual design.
It will be offered in Aurora Green with what Poco describes as a full-panel luminous design. The rear panel can reportedly absorb sunlight or indoor light before producing a soft and uniform glow in darker surroundings.
That could help the F9 Pro stand apart in a smartphone market where specifications are increasingly similar across competing devices.
Cameras could be another major differentiator
Leaks suggest Poco is also preparing significant camera hardware for both models.
The Poco F9 Pro is tipped to feature a triple-camera setup headlined by a 50-megapixel primary sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS).
It could be joined by an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 50-megapixel 3x telephoto camera with OIS.

The more expensive Poco F9 Ultra could take things considerably further, with reports pointing towards a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 50-megapixel 5x telephoto camera alongside its primary shooter.
If these specifications make it to the global version, Poco’s Ultra model could be targeting more than just gaming and benchmark-focused buyers.
Poco F9 Ultra vs F9 Pro: What we know so far
The biggest confirmed difference is already clear.
The Poco F9 Ultra gets the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, while the F9 Pro uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V.
Beyond the processors, leaks suggest the Ultra will offer a larger screen and potentially stronger camera hardware, particularly with its expected 5x telephoto camera.
The Pro, however, may have its own advantages, including the reported 185Hz QHD+ OLED display and its distinctive luminous rear-panel design.
With both models expected to offer up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage, Poco appears to be positioning the F9 family as a serious performance-oriented alternative to premium Android flagships.
September 1 could reveal the biggest missing detail
Most of the attention will now turn to pricing.
Poco has built much of its reputation by offering flagship-grade processors at prices below many traditional premium smartphones. Whether the F9 Pro and F9 Ultra can continue that formula will likely determine how competitive the new series becomes.
Several specifications, including the displays and camera configurations, remain based on leaks and reports rather than complete official confirmation, so final details could differ when Poco unveils the devices.
