‘Students deserve complete justice’: Amit Shah’s first reaction after Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation over NEET row

In his first public reaction following the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had once again demonstrated that the interests of the country’s youth take precedence over political positions.

Responding after the government accepted Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation amid the nationwide NEET paper leak controversy, Amit Shah said he was confident that students who successfully cleared the examination would receive “complete justice.”

‘Youth more important than any position’

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Amit Shah said the resignation reflected the BJP’s commitment to prioritising students and the nation’s future.”For BJP workers, the country, our youth, and students are far more important than any position. Today, the resignation of Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan ji from his post exemplifies this very principle,” Shah wrote.

His remarks came shortly after President Droupadi Murmu accepted Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation, following days of nationwide demonstrations linked to the NEET controversy.

Government promises strict action against paper leaks

The Home Minister reiterated that the Narendra Modi government remains committed to protecting the integrity of public examinations and strengthening safeguards against paper leaks.

According to Shah, the Centre is taking decisive measures to ensure accountability and punish those found guilty of compromising examination systems.”The Modi government respects the sentiments of the country’s youth and is committed to implementing the necessary reforms against paper leaks. The decisions taken by Modi ji to ensure strict punishment for those guilty of paper leaks are commendable,” he said.

Expressing confidence in the government’s approach, Shah added:”I am fully confident that these steps will ensure complete justice for the students who succeeded in the NEET examination.”

Amit Shah praises Dharmendra Pradhan’s tenure

While commenting on the political developments, Amit Shah also praised Dharmendra Pradhan’s work as Education Minister.

He credited Pradhan with playing a significant role in implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) and highlighted several initiatives introduced during his tenure, including the expansion of PM SHRI Schools, promotion of digital education, greater use of mother tongues in examinations, enhanced skill development, and stronger collaboration between academia and industry.”His tenure is a testament to his dedication to the resolve of making India a developed nation,” Shah said.

Leadership change in the Education Ministry

Dharmendra Pradhan stepped down on Saturday after sustained protests over the NEET paper leak issue. Following the resignation, President Droupadi Murmu accepted his resignation, and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi was entrusted with the additional charge of the Ministry of Education until further arrangements are made.

Protests called off after government assurances

Hours after the resignation, the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) announced the withdrawal of its indefinite protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

According to the organisation, the decision followed discussions with the government, which reportedly agreed to withdraw police cases filed against protesters and accepted several demands raised during the movement, including the maximum possible compensation for families of students who allegedly died by suicide in connection with the NEET paper leak controversy.

The latest developments mark a significant political moment in the ongoing debate over examination reforms, with the Centre now promising stronger safeguards to restore confidence in India’s competitive examination system.
