Akshay Kumar speaks about the unexpected blockbuster success of Saiyaara and explains why the romantic drama connected with audiences.

As debates continue within the film industry about what truly drives audiences to theatres, Akshay Kumar has shared a refreshing perspective, using the success of Saiyaara as the perfect example.

The Bollywood superstar believes that a film does not necessarily need a grand event, a massive star cast, or an elaborate marketing campaign to become a blockbuster. Instead, he feels that audience connection and a film’s destiny play a much bigger role.

Speaking during an interaction with IANS, Akshay reflected on the phenomenal success of Saiyaara, which emerged as the third highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025 and became one of the year’s biggest surprise hits.

The actor was asked about the ongoing discussion regarding the type of films that perform best in cinemas. Several industry veterans, including R. Madhavan, have suggested that large-scale entertainers and multi-starrer projects are more likely to attract audiences to theatres.

Responding to the debate, Akshay offered a different viewpoint.

“If it is in the destiny of the film, it runs successfully one way or the other,” he said, emphasizing that there is no fixed formula for box-office success.

While explaining his argument, the actor pointed towards Saiyaara, a film led by newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. Unlike many major releases, the romantic drama did not rely on a huge promotional event, franchise value, or an ensemble cast. Yet it managed to strike a chord with moviegoers across the country.

According to Akshay, the film’s biggest strength was its ability to emotionally connect with audiences.

He noted that the film’s soulful music and romantic narrative resonated deeply with viewers, helping it generate strong word-of-mouth publicity. The combination of fresh faces, heartfelt storytelling, and memorable songs ultimately transformed Saiyaara into a box-office phenomenon.

The success story has become an important reminder for the film industry that content and emotional appeal can still outperform conventional expectations. In an era where high-budget spectacles often dominate conversations, Saiyaara proved that audiences continue to embrace genuine stories when they feel connected to them.

For Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, the film’s remarkable performance has also marked a breakthrough moment in their careers, turning them into some of the most talked-about young talents in Bollywood.

As filmmakers continue searching for the next blockbuster formula, Akshay Kumar’s comments underline a simple but powerful truth: sometimes, a film’s biggest strength is not its scale, but its ability to touch hearts.
