Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed as Major League Baseball's Brand Ambassador as MLB intensifies its efforts to grow baseball's fan base across India.

In a landmark move aimed at strengthening baseball’s presence in one of the world’s biggest sporting markets, Major League Baseball (MLB) has announced Team India captain Suryakumar Yadav as its newest Brand Ambassador.

The partnership marks a significant step in MLB’s long-term vision for India, with the explosive batter set to work closely with the league on fan engagement campaigns, exclusive digital content, community initiatives and high-profile international events.

The announcement comes as MLB continues to explore fresh opportunities in India, where cricket dominates the sporting landscape but interest in global sports is steadily growing.

Why Suryakumar Yadav?

Known for his fearless stroke play and innovative batting, Suryakumar Yadav has become one of India’s most influential cricketers. As the captain of India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026-winning side, his popularity extends well beyond the cricket field.

MLB believes his ability to connect with millions of young sports fans makes him the perfect face to introduce baseball to a wider Indian audience.

Speaking about the collaboration, Suryakumar said he was excited to be part of baseball’s journey in India and looked forward to discovering more about the sport while helping Indian fans experience its unique culture and excitement.

He added that sport has the power to unite people across countries and cultures—a belief that aligns closely with MLB’s global vision.

MLB and JioStar extend partnership

Alongside the ambassador announcement, Major League Baseball also confirmed the extension of its media rights partnership with JioStar, ensuring uninterrupted access to live baseball coverage for Indian viewers.

Under the renewed agreement, JioStar will continue broadcasting MLB matches across its television and digital platforms, including marquee events such as the MLB All-Star Game, selected regular-season fixtures, the Postseason, and the prestigious World Series.

The deal reflects MLB’s growing confidence in the Indian market and its commitment to making baseball more accessible to local audiences.

A bigger plan for baseball in India

The partnership is also backed by RISE Worldwide, the sports marketing arm of Reliance Industries Limited, which has been working alongside MLB to grow the sport across India.

With the combined reach of RISE Worldwide and JioStar, MLB aims to create a stronger ecosystem through live broadcasts, digital storytelling, grassroots initiatives and fan-focused experiences.

As part of his ambassadorial role, Suryakumar will participate in several MLB events in both India and the United States, including the prestigious MLB All-Star Week in Philadelphia from July 10 to July 14.

He will also collaborate with MLB to create original content highlighting the similarities between cricket and baseball, helping fans appreciate the shared skills, strategy and excitement that define both sports.

A new chapter in India’s global sporting journey

For Indian sports fans, this collaboration represents more than just a celebrity endorsement. It signals MLB’s intent to establish a lasting presence in the country by connecting with audiences through one of India’s most admired sporting personalities.

As baseball continues to expand internationally, Suryakumar Yadav’s involvement could become a key bridge between two bat-and-ball sports that share passion, skill and unforgettable moments.
