Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the latest big-budget Hollywood film to face the growing challenge of online piracy. According to multiple media reports, an unauthorized copy of the superhero film was widely circulated on X (formerly Twitter) just days after its theatrical release, prompting copyright takedown efforts.

The reported leak comes at a time when the film is enjoying tremendous success at the Indian box office, where it has already crossed the ₹250 crore net mark.

Full Movie Reportedly Shared on X

According to a report by Variety, copies of Spider-Man: Brand New Day were uploaded and rapidly shared across several accounts on X. Users reportedly downloaded and reposted the footage repeatedly, allowing the leaked version to spread widely before many of the posts were removed.

The report states that the unauthorized uploads reached millions of users before copyright enforcement actions began taking effect.

While several videos were eventually taken down, reports suggest that some uploads remained visible for a period, raising fresh concerns about digital piracy on social media platforms.

X’s Longer Video Upload Limit Under Spotlight

The latest incident has once again put X’s video-sharing capabilities under scrutiny.

After Elon Musk acquired Twitter and rebranded it as X in 2022, the platform introduced longer video uploads for X Premium subscribers, allowing videos of up to four hours in length.

The extended upload limit has made it technically possible for users to upload full-length feature films, creating fresh challenges for movie studios trying to combat piracy.

According to reports, Sony Pictures initiated copyright takedown requests after the leaked copies surfaced online. However, some versions reportedly remained accessible for some time before being removed.

The latest incident mirrors what happened to Christopher Nolan’s film The Odyssey, which also reportedly appeared online shortly after its release. In that case, Universal Pictures was said to have issued copyright takedown notices to remove pirated versions from social media.
