Shah Rukh Khan’s timely support helped ‘Deool Band 2’ overcome a major release hurdle before it became an ₹80 crore blockbuster.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has once again won hearts — this time not on screen, but behind the scenes.

Director Pravin Tarde recently revealed how Shah Rukh played a crucial role in helping his Marathi film ‘Deool Band 2’ reach theatres, waiving a massive 42 lakh charge at a time when the makers were struggling financially.

What makes the story even more remarkable is that the film, made on a modest budget of just 8-10 crore, went on to become a huge box office success, earning over 80 crore domestically and cementing its place among the top five highest-grossing Marathi films of all time.

The Financial Hurdle That Nearly Stopped the Film

According to Pravin Tarde, the team had approached Red Chillies Entertainment to create the film’s Digital Cinema Package (DCP) — a crucial technical format needed for theatrical release.

Initially, the makers had budgeted around 12 lakh for the process. But when the final bill arrived, it came as a major shock.

The total cost stood at approximately 42 lakh.

For a regional film operating on a tight budget, it was a huge setback.

Tarde admitted that the team simply did not have the resources to pay such a large amount and feared that the film’s release could be delayed or even jeopardized.

How Shah Rukh Khan Changed Everything

With no immediate solution in sight, the filmmakers reached out to Red Chillies and explained their situation.

The matter eventually reached Shah Rukh Khan himself.

Before making a decision, Shah Rukh reportedly asked his technical team for details about the project and the people behind it.

He was informed that ‘Deool Band 2’ was made by the same team behind ‘Mulshi Pattern’, the acclaimed Marathi film that later inspired Salman Khan’s Hindi movie ‘Antim’.

Once Shah Rukh understood the situation, his response was immediate.

He reportedly instructed Red Chillies to release the DCP and waive the payment, saying the makers should not be stopped because of financial constraints.

For Pravin Tarde, it was a moment he says he will never forget.

‘Support When No One Knew If It Would Work’

Tarde praised Shah Rukh’s generosity, saying the actor’s support came at a time when the film had no guarantee of success.

That, according to him, made the gesture even more meaningful.

He said what touched him most was the respect shown by Shah Rukh and his team towards Marathi cinema, choosing to support creativity over commercial calculations.

Tarde also revealed that he hopes to personally arrange a special screening of ‘Deool Band 2’ for Shah Rukh as a token of gratitude.

A Story That Connected With Audiences

Starring Snehal Tarde in the lead role and veteran actor Mohan Joshi as Swami Samarth, the film deals with deeply emotional themes such as farmers’ suicides, faith, and the clash between belief and skepticism.

Its grounded storytelling and emotional depth struck a chord with audiences, leading to strong word-of-mouth and exceptional box office growth.

What started as a small regional project eventually turned into a historic success story.

Shah Rukh’s Gesture Becomes Part of the Film’s Legacy

While ‘Deool Band 2’ is now celebrated as one of Marathi cinema’s biggest commercial triumphs, its journey to the big screen could have looked very different without Shah Rukh Khan’s intervention.

In an industry often driven by numbers, this story stands out as a reminder that sometimes one act of trust can shape the destiny of an entire film.

And for the makers of ‘Deool Band 2’, that trust came from the King of Bollywood himself.
