Royal Enfield Offers Free Gear Position Indicator for Select 350cc Bikes | Dainik Diary
Royal Enfield has resumed free Gear Position Indicator installation for eligible Classic 350, Hunter 350, Meteor 350 and Goan Classic 350 motorcycles manufactured after August 2025.

Good news awaits owners of select Royal Enfield motorcycles. The company has resumed offering the Gear Position Indicator (GPI) on eligible 350cc models after a temporary pause caused by supply chain disruptions.

Customers who purchased qualifying motorcycles manufactured after August 2025 can now have the feature installed free of cost at authorised Royal Enfield service centres.

The move comes after the manufacturer restored the supply of the rare-earth materials required to produce the component.

Why Was the Feature Delayed?

Earlier this year, Royal Enfield temporarily stopped fitting the Gear Position Indicator on some motorcycles because of a shortage of rare-earth materials used in manufacturing the part.

The supply issue affected production, forcing the company to delay the installation of the feature on select motorcycles.

With the supply chain now stabilised, Royal Enfield has restarted the rollout of the Gear Position Indicator across eligible models.

Which Royal Enfield Bikes Are Eligible?

The free Gear Position Indicator installation applies to select motorcycles manufactured after August 2025, including:

However, eligibility depends on the motorcycle’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and manufacturing period.

Owners are advised to contact their nearest authorised Royal Enfield dealership or service centre to confirm whether their motorcycle qualifies for the update.

What Does the Gear Position Indicator Do?

The Gear Position Indicator displays the currently engaged gear on the motorcycle’s instrument cluster.

While it may appear to be a small addition, it offers several practical benefits, including:

  • Helping riders know exactly which gear is engaged.
  • Making gear changes smoother during city and highway riding.
  • Assisting new riders in learning correct gear selection.
  • Promoting more efficient riding and better fuel economy.

For beginner motorcyclists especially, the feature can make riding more confidence-inspiring and reduce unnecessary gear shifts.

Free Installation at Authorised Service Centres

Royal Enfield has confirmed that eligible motorcycles can receive the Gear Position Indicator through its authorised service network.

Owners simply need to:

  • Verify eligibility using their motorcycle’s VIN.
  • Contact their nearest authorised service centre.
  • Schedule an installation appointment if required.

The installation is being offered at no additional cost for motorcycles covered under the affected production period.

A Small Upgrade With Everyday Benefits

Although the Gear Position Indicator is not a major mechanical upgrade, it enhances the overall riding experience by providing useful real-time information.

As motorcycles continue to receive more rider-focused technology, features like gear indicators have become increasingly popular, particularly among first-time riders and daily commuters.

With the supply constraints now resolved, eligible Royal Enfield owners can finally enjoy a feature that many had been waiting for since purchasing their motorcycles.
