Rohit Sharma resumes batting practice in England ahead of India's three-match ODI series after returning from a family vacation.

Rohit Sharma has officially begun preparations for India’s upcoming three-match ODI series against England, signalling that he is fully fit and ready for another important assignment in the 50-over format.

After enjoying a family vacation in Austria with his wife Ritika Sajdeh and their children, the veteran opener arrived in England and wasted no time returning to the nets. Images of Rohit training have quickly caught the attention of fans, with many seeing it as a positive sign ahead of the ODI series, which begins on July 14.

The series follows the ongoing five-match T20I contest between India and England, with both teams set to switch focus to the 50-over format after the conclusion of the shorter series.

Rohit Carries Excellent ODI Form

The 39-year-old heads into the England tour after delivering consistent performances in India’s recent ODI series against Afghanistan.

Rohit scored a brisk 48 off 39 balls in the second ODI before following it up with a commanding 79 from 69 deliveries in the third match. During that knock, he achieved a major career milestone by becoming India’s highest run-scoring opening batter in international cricket.

The experienced opener now has 16,137 international runs as an opener, moving past the legendary Virender Sehwag, who previously held the record.

He also became the oldest Indian cricketer to score an ODI half-century, surpassing a long-standing record held by Mohinder Amarnath.

Outstanding Record in England

England has been one of Rohit’s most successful overseas destinations in ODI cricket.

Across 27 ODIs in the country, he has amassed 1,428 runs at an impressive average of 64.90, including seven centuries and seven half-centuries. He currently holds the distinction of being the highest run-scorer among visiting batters in ODI matches played in England.

The conditions have often suited Rohit’s elegant stroke play, and he will be hoping to add to those remarkable numbers once again.

Fitness Sends Positive Signal

Questions over Rohit’s fitness had surfaced earlier this year after he suffered a hamstring injury during the IPL 2026.

However, following rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, the opener returned to action in the Afghanistan series and now appears fully fit ahead of the England challenge.

His early return to training also sends a strong message that he remains committed to maintaining peak fitness despite approaching the latter stages of his international career.

With Rohit set to turn 40 before the 2027 ODI World Cup, discussions about his long-term future in international cricket continue.

India are expected to play a limited number of ODI matches before the global tournament, making every series important for players hoping to cement their place in the squad.

Strong performances in England would further strengthen Rohit’s case as one of India’s most experienced and reliable batters heading into the next World Cup cycle.

India’s ODI Squad for England Series

India’s squad for the ODI series includes Shubman Gill (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (Vice-Captain), KL Rahul (Wicketkeeper), Ishan Kishan (Wicketkeeper), Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, and Gurnoor Brar.

With several senior players returning to the ODI setup, the England series is expected to play a key role in shaping India’s preparations for future ICC tournaments.
