Redmi K90 Ultra unveiled with built-in cooling fan and 8,550mAh battery… Xiaomi’s new gaming beast packs flagship power

Xiaomi has officially expanded its premium smartphone portfolio with the launch of the Redmi K90 Ultra, a device aimed squarely at power users and mobile gamers. The latest handset combines flagship-grade performance with an innovative active cooling system, making it one of the most feature-packed smartphones introduced by the company this year.

What immediately sets the Redmi K90 Ultra apart is its built-in air-cooling fan, a feature rarely seen in mainstream smartphones. Paired with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, the device is designed to deliver sustained high performance even during extended gaming sessions and demanding workloads.

A display built for speed and entertainment

The Redmi K90 Ultra sports a 6.83-inch flat AMOLED display with a crisp 1.5K resolution (2772 × 1280 pixels) and an ultra-smooth 165Hz refresh rate. Built using Xiaomi’s latest M10 display material, the panel is claimed to reach an impressive 3,500 nits peak brightness, ensuring excellent visibility even under bright outdoor conditions.

Gamers also benefit from a 480Hz multi-finger touch reporting rate and an ultra-fast 3,500Hz instant touch sampling rate, helping minimise input delay during competitive gameplay.

Snapdragon 8 Elite powers flagship performance

At the heart of the smartphone lies the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, built on an advanced 3nm architecture. The chipset is paired with up to 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB UFS 4.1 storage, promising smooth multitasking, faster app loading, and high-speed data transfers.

To further enhance gaming performance, Xiaomi has included a dedicated D2 display chip that assists with AI-powered frame interpolation and image upscaling for supported games.

Active cooling takes centre stage

Unlike conventional smartphones that rely only on passive cooling, the Redmi K90 Ultra integrates an 18.1mm active cooling fan alongside a massive 6,000mm² vapour chamber.

According to Xiaomi, the fan operates at approximately 32dB, helping dissipate heat efficiently while maintaining relatively low noise levels. The smartphone runs on HyperOS 3, the company’s latest operating system based on Android.

Large battery with ultra-fast charging

Battery life is another major highlight. The device houses a massive 8,550mAh battery, one of the largest capacities seen in a flagship smartphone.

It supports 100W wired fast charging, 22.5W reverse wired charging, and bypass charging, allowing users to power the device without significantly increasing battery temperature during gaming.

Camera setup focuses on reliability

On the photography front, the Redmi K90 Ultra features a 50MP primary camera equipped with Xiaomi’s Light Hunter 800 sensor, optical image stabilisation (OIS), and an f/1.68 aperture. Supporting it is an 8MP ultra-wide camera, while the rear setup can record videos in 8K resolution at 30fps.

For selfies and video calls, users get a 20MP front-facing camera capable of recording 1080p videos.

The Redmi K90 Ultra is currently available in China in Shadow Black, Space Silver, and Sky Blue colour options.

Pricing starts at 2,799 yuan (approximately $420) for the 12GB + 256GB variant. Xiaomi is also offering the 16GB + 256GB version at the same introductory price. Meanwhile, the 12GB + 512GB model is priced at 3,299 yuan (around $495), while the top-end 16GB + 512GB variant costs 3,499 yuan (around $525).

While Xiaomi has not yet announced a global or India launch timeline, the Redmi K90 Ultra’s specifications suggest it could become one of the company’s most competitive flagship offerings if it reaches international markets.
