Parthiv Patel Picks India's Playing XI for 4th T20I vs England, Suggests Major Batting Changes
Parthiv Patel has suggested key changes to India's playing XI ahead of the must-win fourth T20I against England after the team's disappointing batting performances in the series.

Bristol: Team India stand at the edge of elimination as they prepare for the fourth T20I against England, with the visitors trailing 0-2 in the five-match series. After a disastrous outing in Nottingham, where India were bundled out for just 76 runs and suffered a humiliating 125-run defeat, all eyes are now on how the team management responds.

Former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel believes the answer lies in reshaping the batting order and creating a more balanced playing XI. Speaking on Star Sports, Patel stressed that India must move away from a batting lineup overloaded with left-handed players and instead rely on their strongest batters to deliver in a must-win encounter.

According to Patel, having too many left-handers in the top order has allowed England’s bowlers to settle into a consistent rhythm. He argued that better right-left combinations would force bowlers to constantly adjust their plans and provide India with greater flexibility during crucial moments of the innings.

The former cricketer also suggested that Tilak Varma should bat at No. 6, while the middle order should revolve around experienced names like Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer. Patel believes the batting positions among these players can remain flexible depending on the match situation.

Another major point raised by Patel was the team’s overall balance. He advised India to avoid relying heavily on multiple all-rounders and instead field five specialist bowlers, allowing the top-order batters to shoulder the responsibility of putting up competitive totals.

India’s batting has been under intense scrutiny throughout the England tour. Despite experimenting with different combinations and changing the batting order in recent matches, the team has failed to produce consistent performances. The crushing collapse in the third T20I has only intensified questions over the current strategy.

With only two matches left in the series, the pressure on the Indian camp has reached its highest point. A defeat in Bristol would hand England an unassailable lead and seal the series, making the fourth T20I one of India’s most important white-ball matches this year.

The contest also carries additional significance as India look to bounce back after winning the 2026 T20 World Cup. Since lifting the global trophy, the team has struggled to maintain its momentum, and another series defeat would raise fresh concerns ahead of future international assignments.
