India’s Only Three-Row Electric SUV from Mahindra
The XEV 9S currently stands as Mahindra’s only three-row electric SUV, making it a unique offering in the company’s growing EV portfolio.
Built on Mahindra’s advanced INGLO skateboard platform, the SUV shares its architecture with the Mahindra BE 6 and Mahindra XEV 9e.
The modular EV platform has been developed to deliver improved performance, safety and battery efficiency while supporting multiple future electric vehicles.
Three Battery and Powertrain Options
The XEV 9S continues to be available with three battery configurations:
59kWh Battery
- 228bhp
- 380Nm torque
70kWh Battery
- 241bhp
- 380Nm torque
79kWh Battery
- 282bhp
- 380Nm torque
Customers can also choose between variants supplied with a charger or No Charger (NCH) option, depending on their charging requirements.
500km+ Real-World Range Remains a Strong Selling Point
Despite the latest price increase, one of the SUV’s biggest attractions remains its impressive driving range.

Testing of the 79kWh variant has demonstrated a real-world range of over 500 kilometres on a full charge, making it suitable for both city commuting and long-distance travel.
Highway efficiency has also been noteworthy, with the SUV delivering approximately 7km per kWh while cruising at speeds between 90kmph and 100kmph.
These figures suggest the XEV 9S has been engineered not only for daily urban use but also for extended highway journeys.
No Mechanical or Feature Changes
Apart from the revised pricing, Mahindra has not announced any updates to the SUV’s:
- Design
- Features
- Battery pack
- Motor specifications
- Performance
- Charging capabilities
The latest revision is therefore purely a price adjustment, with buyers continuing to receive the same equipment and technology package.
What It Means for Buyers
The Indian electric vehicle market has witnessed several price revisions in recent months as manufacturers respond to changing production costs and market conditions.
Although the Mahindra XEV 9S has become more expensive, its combination of long driving range, three-row practicality and multiple battery choices continues to make it one of the most distinctive electric SUVs currently available in India.
Prospective buyers should check with their nearest Mahindra dealership for updated on-road pricing, as final costs will vary depending on state taxes, insurance and registration charges.
