The blockbuster that changed Mahesh Babu’s career is making a grand comeback on June 26, with director Gunasekhar and producer M.S. Raju sharing their excitement.
Hyderabad: Some films don’t just become hits they become timeless memories. One such film is ‘Okkadu’, the blockbuster that transformed Mahesh Babu into a superstar and cemented its place as one of Telugu cinema’s most celebrated classics.
Now, nearly 23 years after its original release, the iconic action drama is all set to return to the big screen once again this time in stunning 4K format.
Directed by Gunasekhar and produced by M.S. Raju under the Sumanth Art Productions banner, Okkadu will be re-released worldwide on June 26, with screenings planned across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and several other parts of India.
Originally released in 2003, Okkadu became a game-changer in Mahesh Babu’s career, delivering massive box office success and earning a permanent place in Telugu cinema history.
One of the film’s most talked-about highlights was the massive Charminar set, specially built for the movie an ambitious move at the time that added to its grandeur and visual appeal.
But for many fans, the emotional connection goes beyond the set pieces.
The film’s memorable association with Kurnool Kondareddy Buruju remains deeply etched in the minds of Telugu movie lovers, making it one of the most visually and emotionally iconic films of its era.
Alongside Mahesh Babu, the film featured Bhumika Chawla as the female lead, while Prakash Raj delivered what many still consider one of the most powerful villain performances in Telugu cinema.

“Though the film has been re-released several times, this time it is coming in 4K quality. Like the audience, I am also excited to watch it again on the big screen,” he said.
Producer M.S. Raju compared the film’s repeated re-releases to legendary classics like Mayabazar and Pathala Bhairavi, saying that Okkadu has now earned a similar timeless status.
He added that every re-release feels like a celebration for Mahesh Babu fans.
And judging by the excitement already building online, this comeback may once again prove why Okkadu remains one of the finest action dramas Telugu cinema has ever produced.
