IPL Changed Batters Forever? Karun Nair Makes Big Prediction on Cricket’s Aggressive Future

The impact of IPL 2026 may extend far beyond the tournament itself, and Indian batter Karun Nair believes the aggressive brand of cricket seen this season is set to redefine batting across domestic competitions.

With teams regularly posting and chasing 200-plus totals with remarkable ease, this year’s IPL once again showcased how modern T20 cricket is evolving — faster, bolder, and more fearless than ever.

And according to Karun, that mindset shift is only just beginning.

Speaking ahead of the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20, where he leads Coastal Kings Mangaluru, Karun said the IPL is now setting the benchmark for how batters approach the game.

“The IPL is certainly setting the trend. The players are thinking in different ways. So, I think we’ll see similar things in every tournament going forward,” he said.

His comments reflect a growing belief in cricket circles that the IPL is no longer just a tournament — it’s shaping the global cricketing mindset.

This season saw multiple teams comfortably chasing massive targets, with power-hitting and fearless intent becoming the norm rather than the exception.

However, Karun also admitted that replicating IPL-style batting in other domestic tournaments isn’t always straightforward.

He pointed out that factors like pitch quality, bowling speed, and match conditions differ significantly outside the IPL ecosystem.

“It’s difficult to replicate that because in IPL, the wickets are different and the bowlers are quicker, so the ball goes further,” he explained.

Despite those challenges, the biggest change, according to Karun, is psychological.

The confidence to attack from ball one, adapt quickly, and take risks has now become part of every batter’s approach.

That change in mentality, he believes, is here to stay.

Karun himself had a mixed IPL campaign this year. Retained by the Delhi Capitals for ₹50 lakh, the experienced batter featured in only two matches, limiting his opportunities to make a larger impact.

Now, with the Maharaja Trophy underway, Karun will be looking to lead by example and showcase that aggressive mindset he believes is transforming Indian cricket.

Interestingly, his opening match against the Hubli Tigers ended in disappointment after rain forced the game to be abandoned without a single ball being bowled.
