Joe Root Breaks Silence on Ben Stokes Controversy, Says ‘Some Conversations Must Stay Private’

Ben Stokes, former England captain Joe Root has finally addressed the situation — but chose restraint over revelation.

Speaking ahead of the second Test against New Zealand national cricket team, Root confirmed that he has been in constant touch with Stokes over the past week, even as the England skipper remains sidelined following a disciplinary issue involving a breach of the ECB’s midnight curfew. “I have spoken to him several times over the last week or so… we are close friends, and those conversations should stay between us,” Root said during the pre-match press conference, subtly drawing a line between public curiosity and personal boundaries.
