Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan celebrate after record 224-run partnership against Afghanistan in 2nd ODI at Lucknow

The second ODI between India and Afghanistan in Lucknow turned into a batting spectacle, but it was a playful off-field comment that stole the spotlight after the match.

India registered a dominant 170-run victory to seal the series 2-0, thanks to a breathtaking partnership between Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan, who dismantled the Afghan bowling attack with ease.

After being put in to bat at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, India found themselves under early pressure at 96/2, especially after the dismissal of Rohit Sharma (48). But what followed was complete domination as Gill and Kishan stitched together a stunning 224-run partnership off just 140 balls.

Shubman Gill played a masterclass innings, scoring 154 off 110 balls, while Ishan Kishan unleashed fearless hitting to smash 125 off 79 balls, taking the game far away from Afghanistan’s reach.

However, what caught fans’ attention after the match was Kishan’s humorous remark about his partner-in-crime Gill. In a light-hearted exchange, Kishan jokingly said, “Mere 70 runs kam kar diye” (You took away my 70 runs), hinting that Gill’s dominance at the crease limited his own scoring opportunity.

The comment quickly went viral, showcasing the strong camaraderie between the two young Indian batters who complemented each other perfectly during the record stand.

Kishan eventually fell while attempting to complete a hat-trick of sixes, but by then the damage was already done, as India posted a mammoth total that Afghanistan never came close to chasing.

With this win, India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, further strengthening their dominance in white-ball cricket.

Beyond the numbers, the match will be remembered for the chemistry between Gill and Kishan—a partnership that not only crushed the opposition but also delivered a moment of humour that fans will talk about for days.
