Mohammed Siraj and Tilak Varma named in legal notice controversy over alleged association with TG20 League in Hyderabad

A major off-field controversy has erupted in Indian cricket after the Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) issued legal notices to several high-profile cricketers and celebrities over their reported involvement with the proposed TG20 League.

According to reports, Indian cricketers Mohammed Siraj, Tilak Varma, and former player Ambati Rayudu have been named in the notices, along with film actors Vijay Deverakonda and Venkatesh Daggubati.

The TCA has raised serious objections to their association with what it has described as a “tainted and illegal league,” alleging that the tournament is being organised without mandatory approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Speaking to ANI, TCA General Secretary Gurava Reddy stated that the association strongly opposes the promotion of the TG20 League, claiming it is being conducted without proper authorization and violates established cricketing regulations.

The controversy primarily revolves around concerns that the league may not have received official clearance from the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) or the governing body, raising questions about its legitimacy and structure.

While no official response has yet been issued by the named cricketers or celebrities, the legal notices have sparked widespread discussion across cricket and entertainment circles. The involvement of active international players like Mohammed Siraj and rising star Tilak Varma has particularly intensified the spotlight on the issue.

At a time when Indian cricket is closely regulated under the BCCI framework, any association with unapproved leagues can potentially lead to disciplinary scrutiny, making the situation even more sensitive.

As the matter unfolds, all eyes will be on the responses from the accused parties and whether the TG20 League receives any official clarification or approval moving forward.

For now, the controversy adds yet another layer of complexity to the growing intersection between cricket, celebrity endorsements, and privately organised leagues in India.
