“Treated us very unfairly”: Iran coach explodes at World Cup hosts after tense Egypt draw

Tensions have risen at the FIFA World Cup 2026 after Iran head coach Amir Ghalenoei publicly criticised the tournament hosts, alleging his team faced unfair treatment throughout the competition.

“The host country treated us very unfairly. Had the host nation allowed us to arrive two weeks earlier to prepare, we would have been in much better shape, physically and mentally. However, they deprived us of that justice,” he said.

To make matters tougher, Ghalenoei revealed the team had to immediately travel back to Tijuana after the Egypt game, leaving little time for recovery if they advance.

“If, God willing, we advance, I’ll give the players a day to recover properly, maybe go to the beach and mentally relax a bit,” he said.
