Fresh reports from Iran have sparked speculation about a possible shift in the country’s political landscape, with Ali Khomeini, grandson of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, reportedly receiving backing from influential hardline groups.

The reports come at a time of heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, while the prolonged absence of Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has further fueled discussions about the country’s future leadership.

It is important to note that these reports have not been officially confirmed by Iranian authorities.

Hardline faction reportedly backs Ali Khomeini

According to reports, Jebhe-ye Paydari (the Endurance Front), one of Iran’s most conservative political factions, has thrown its support behind Ali Khomeini.

The Endurance Front is widely regarded as an ultra-hardline political movement that advocates strict adherence to the ideals of the 1979 Islamic Revolution led by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

The reports gained additional attention after Ali Khomeini recently delivered remarks in Qom, where he reportedly rejected the possibility of reaching an agreement with the United States.

There have also been media claims suggesting that sections of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) support Ali Khomeini. However, no official confirmation has been issued by the Iranian government or the IRGC.

Why Mojtaba Khamenei’s absence is attracting attention

Speculation has intensified because Mojtaba Khamenei has remained largely absent from public events in recent months.

Reports noted that he was not publicly seen during the funeral ceremonies of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, leading analysts to debate whether internal political realignments may be taking place.

However, there has been no official statement from Iranian authorities explaining his absence or suggesting any change in the country’s leadership structure.

Separately, Iran’s Foreign Ministry has criticised the United Kingdom’s decision to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a security threat.

Iran described the move as “unjustified” and “irresponsible,” arguing that the IRGC is an official branch of the country’s armed forces. The ministry also accused Britain of acting contrary to international law by targeting a state institution.
