The much-awaited iQOO 16 may never reach Indian shores this year, if the latest industry buzz is to be believed. While smartphone enthusiasts were expecting the company’s next flagship to follow its predecessors into the Indian market, a fresh report suggests that soaring memory prices have significantly changed those plans.

According to well-known technology tipster Yogesh Brar, the iQOO 16 is unlikely to launch in India in 2026. The primary reason behind this reported decision is the sharp increase in the cost of memory components, which could push the smartphone’s expected retail price beyond ₹85,000. Such pricing would make it difficult for the brand to compete in India’s increasingly price-sensitive premium smartphone segment.

The development comes at a time when several smartphone manufacturers are feeling the pressure of rising component costs. Industry analysts believe that higher prices for RAM and storage chips are impacting production budgets globally, forcing brands to rethink their launch strategies.

The previous flagship, the iQOO 15, debuted in India with a starting price of ₹72,999. However, due to increasing hardware costs, the company later revised its pricing, and the base variant with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage now starts at ₹76,999. The steady rise in manufacturing expenses appears to have made launching an even more expensive successor commercially challenging.

Reports also indicate that iQOO has reduced the scale of its operations in India, leading to a more cautious product roadmap. Instead of expanding its premium lineup, the company is now expected to concentrate on budget-friendly smartphones that offer better sales volumes.

Earlier this year, iQOO had already confirmed that it would skip launching a new Neo-series smartphone in India. Now, the only expected launch from the brand is believed to be the iQOO Z11 or a possible Z11 Lite, both aimed at the affordable smartphone segment. The teaser for the upcoming Z-series device was recently shared by Nipun Marya, the CEO of iQOO India.

The reported cancellation of the iQOO 16’s India launch could also signal a larger trend across the smartphone industry. As component prices continue to climb, manufacturers may increasingly prioritise mid-range and budget devices over premium flagships. This strategy allows brands to maintain competitive pricing while protecting profit margins during uncertain market conditions.

Although iQOO has not officially confirmed the cancellation, consumers waiting for the company’s next flagship may have to temper their expectations until the global supply chain and memory prices stabilise.

For now, India’s smartphone market appears set to see more affordable launches rather than ultra-premium devices, reflecting a broader shift in strategy driven by rising production costs.
